looking forward
to ’50s reunion
There's nothing like
photographs to bring back old
memories, as these shots of the
1953 junior high graduation class
of Wylie Elementary School and
the old Wylie High School
building well demonstrate.
Most of the students in the 1953
junior high graduating class went
on to graduate from high school in
1957, and many of them married
classmates and had children who
later attended Wylie schools.
The parents of several of the
1953 junior high graduating class
had attended Wylie schools in the
1930s and 1940s.
The red brick school house
pictured here stood where
American National Bank is now
located, and it educated first
through twelfth graders until 1948,
when the T.F. Birmingham High
School was built on Birmingham
St.
Sports fans were delighted by
the new gymnasium, because the old
one was concrete and had no
bleachers. Also, the new high school
provided a nice home economics
department and a new shop.
All the 1950s students attended
classes in the new high school and
were graduated there. They will
hold a 50s reunion on June 4 at 2555
W. FM 544 beginning at 2 p.m.

Six Hints For Helping
Kids Make Responsible
Decisions*
1. Discuss the problem.
What is it you need to do or
decide?
2. Gather more informa-
tion. What do you know from
other experiences that would
help?
3. List the alternatives.
What are all the possible choic-
es? Are there others you’ve
forgotten?
4. Examine the conse-
quences. What will be the
results, good and bad, of each
alternative?
5. Consider feelings and
values. How do you feel about
each alternative? Each conse-
quence?
6. Choose the best possi-
ble course of action.
A classic is something that everybody
nobody wants to read.
wants to have read and

Ways to Protect
Your Pet
(NAPS)—Don't let your pet
become one of the millions of lost
cats and dogs.
1. Never let your pet run free.
Even if you have a fenced-in yard,
or an electronic fence, your pet can
bolt through or dig under the fence.
Well-known pet expert, Mordecai
Siegal, recommends the Scratchex
flea collar. “It's the only one that
offers a free, on-collar registration
identification tag and free Lost Pet
Hotline," he counsels.
2. A cat outdoors is a cat in
danger. Keep your cats indoors.
Only then can you protect your
feline from predators or infection
from animals, such as raccoons,
that carry rabies.
3. Never let your pet ride in the
back of a truck or in a vehicle with
the windows open wide enough to
allow escape.
4. All cats and dogs should
wear brightly colored, highly visi-
ble collars; they are more likely to
be spotted on a road or in a field.
5. Make sure your pet wears an
identification tag. One good way,
says Mordecai Siegal, well-known
pet expert, is with a Scratchex
“Color-Full" flea collar. “It is the
only one that offers a free, on-col-
lar identification U g and the
exclusive data-based Lost Pet
Hotline registration service free,”
he explains.
