Thick raffle drawing to a close
Only a limited number of tickets
remain to win a 1994 S-10 Chevrolet
(bat will be awarded in the Wylie
Lions Club raffle on July 16.
A maximum of 1,000 tickets will
be sold for the truck which was
obtained from a special purchase
from Lakeside Chevrolet in
Rockwall.
‘There are only 1,000 tickets to
be sold—no more will be printed,”
said Lions Club President Robert
Greer. “People have an excellent
chance of winning.”
Proceeds from the event will
supplement the “sight first”
campaign as well as provide
additional funds for community
needs. Greer added that the club
recently sent $500 to the Lancaster
Lions Club for disbursement in that
community.
“We hope that we never see
another tornado here in Wylie, but if
we do, projects such as this one will
ensure that we have funds available
to assist those in need," he said.
“The Lions Club’s primary
function is to assist the needy with
glasses and eye surgery. Here in
Wylie, we are primarily focused on
children," said Greer. “That is our
1 motto, ‘Sight first.’

“What we have done in the past
is bold small raffles, pancake dinners
and those sorts of things about three
or four times a year. However, this
year we decided as a group to hold
one big fundraiser in the hope to
increase the club's efforts and
funds,” he said.
Greer emphasized that club
members have done an outstanding
job selling tickets for this year's
fundraiser, but gives special
recognition to club member Byrne
Underhill for his outstanding efforts
in the project.
“Byrne has been the key to this
whole thing. I asked him to form a
committee for the project and make
suggestions for the vehicle. He took
over from there," Greer said.
He also credits American
National Bank and Lakeside
Chevrolet for their support in
financing and obtaining the vehicle.
Fundraiser officials caution that a
limited number of tickets remain.
Additional tickets can be purchased
from Bobby King at the Wylie
Flower Shop.
“The men have done an
outstanding job—it’s been a unified
effort,” said Greer.
The Wylie Lions Club will raffle off this 1994 Chevrolet S10
pickup on July 16.

As another school year comes to a close, the P.M. Akin Elementary ITA would like to
take this opportunity to express our deepest appreciation for the tremendous commitment and
support given to the PTA, our children and staff at Akin Elementary during the 1993-94
school year.
Our community helped in many different ways throughout the year. Area merchants and
businesses donated goods and services to “Akin’s Wild Westfest”. Wylie residents and Akin
children and their parents generously gave their time and resources to our major fundraiser.
Parental involvement and support is essential for the success of any school and Akin
Elementary is indeed fortunate to have so many parents who spend countless hours “helping
ouf’with anything that is needed. Much of what they do is “behind the scenes” - but their
efforts contribute greatly to the achievements of the Akin children, staff and school.
Your support of the Akin Elementary ITA, the school staff and Akin’s children is an
enhancement to our entire community.
