Reception Friday For Recent Bride Is Brilliant Affair
Mrs. Bennitt, New Resident, Presented;
Many Out-Of-Town Visitors Attend

fJEFLECTING the beauty of the Yuletide season combined with wedding
bells and cupids ringing in the New Year, the home of Mrs. Albert
Brann, 801 James, was the scene of a brilliant assemblage of society mat-
rons on New Year's Day when Mrs. Brann entertained with a reception
for her sister. Mrs Raymond Bishop, a December bride.
Approximately 106 persons called between the hours of 3 and 5 o'clock

door by Mrs. John Perry, who pre-
sented the hostess heading the re-
ceiving line. Mrs. Brann. dressed in
a gown of black lace with silver ac-
cessories and a pompom corsage of
white carnations, introduced the
honoree, who was becomingly at-
tired in an afternoon gown of coral
lace with a tufted corsage bouquet
of blue carnations and silver rib-
bons.
Mrs. Ben Carter of Big Spring,
the former Miss Mable Bardwell of
Sweetwater, stood next in line wear-
ing a gown of white marquisette
and lace panels with a garland of
red rosebuds in her hair.
Mrs. Bennitt Presented
Mrs. George Bennitt. formerly of
the library where Mrs. B. C. McCall
presided at the register. Mrs. McCall
wore an afternoon frock of black
satin and crepe and a corsage of
blue cornflowers and yellow tea
roses.
Tlie bride’s book was bell-shaped
and fashioned of white saiin and
silver ribbons. On each page was
handpainted a bride and groom,
bells and scrolls in pastel shades.
Those in the house-party wrote a
wish to the bride. Mrs. Lane Mc-

Musical Program
Mrs. Garland Vinson presided over
an informal musical program of
piano and violin solos during the
entertaining hours. Mrs. Cathryn
Carter Wells rendered several vio-
lin selections accompanied by Miss
Mary Jane Dulaney. Piano solos
were played by Miss Dulaney. Mr;.
H. D. Smith and Jack Perry.

After a visit in San Antonio. Dal-
las and Fort Worth, Mr. and Mrs.

Mr. Bell, a representative for the
Morrison Supply Company, attend-
ed a sales meeting of the company
' in Fort Worth.

Mr. Bennitt is the new owner and
publisher of the Sweetwater Re-
porter and the family is residing
at 1207 Bawcom.

Mrs. Vernon Cox in a wine colored
velvet, Mrs. Blanche Beakley wear-
ing black lace, Mrs. Floyd Bowen passed
of Lubbock in royal blue lace, Mrs.
C. S. Perkins in black velvet with
a trim of ermine and corsage of
pink sweetpeas and a pink camelia
in her hair, and Mrs. Bernice Herr-
ing of Austin in a rust colored taf-
feta dinner gown.
Assisting in entertaining
guests in the living room were Mrs.
J. S. Schooler. Mrs. L. R. Cramer,
Mrs. Joe Bowen and Mrs. E. S.
Johnston, while Mrs. Frank Murch-
ison and Mrs. Chas. Hodges escorted
tall festive centerpiece of red balls
and silver leave, surrounded by red
cellophane with silver leaves and
red and silver berries trailing to
the four corners of the table. Red
tapers burned in silver holders, and
on the buffet red tapers were in
seven-branched candelabra.
Three sub-debs in pastel evening
frocks, Misses Joyce Rogers, Marjo-
rie Stevenson and Gloria Sadler,
places holding ice cream
molded in the shape of wedding
bells, dainty cookies and salted pe-
cans resting on a bright red doily.
Other Courtesies Planned
Mrs. Bishop is to be complimented
with other social courtesies within
the next few wreeks, some of which
•the | will include her husband, who is
tax assessor and collector of Nolan
CfouBiy.
On Saturday afternoon Mrs. Joe
Bowen will name her as honoree at
an afternoon bridge and on Tues-

Miss Bill Holt, who has boon visit-
ing her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.
H. Ilolt of Divide section dur-
ing the holidays, is to return Sun-
day afternoon to Denton where she
is attending Texas State Womans
College.
Miss Betty Jo Street, who has
been visiting her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. J. L. Lewis of the Nolan com-
munity two weeks, is returning to
Texas Technological College, Lub-
bock, where she is a junior.
Norma Gray Costephens, con-
nected with the Civil Service work
at Washington, and her sister. Mi .
Irene Gray, also of Washington,
have been visiting their mother at
Roscoe.
Gayles, who is spending the winter
in their home.
Billy Pool, ulio spent the holidays
here, is leaving Sunday for 3te-
phenville to resume his studies at
John Tarleton. He visited relatives
here.
Miss Katherine Holt is returning
to school at Hardin-Simmons Uni-
versity, Abilene, after spending tlie
holidays with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. M. H. Holt of tlie Divide sec-

Miss Catherine Lewis, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. H. C, Lewis. Mary-
neal, is returning to Denton to re-
sume her studies in Texas State
Womans College.
Miss Louise Moon, student in
Southern Methodist University, Dal-
las, is returning to school there,
following a visit with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Moon at Rotan.
Dan McDonald is returning to
Lubbock to resume his studies in
Texas Technological College after
visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
D. L. McDonald of Blackwell.

who is recovering from a long ill-
ness. Another son, Frank Jr., is to
remain until his father is able to
accompany him to Los Angeles.
Mrs. Gertrude Withers and son,
Frank Edward, expect to leave Sun-
day for San Antonio after a visit
here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
L. C. Vinson. Mrs. Withers teaches
in the schools there.
Miss Christine Anderson of Fort
Worth is leaving Sunday for her
home after a holiday visit here with

the University of Texas after a hol-

and Mrs. Frank Earney. John Whit-
man. brother of Mrs. Earney, was
a Christmas Day guest in their
home. He is a student of the uni-
versity, also.

Sirs. R. T. Bland is recovering
from a painful accident suffered
this week when she fell and broke
a bone in her wrist. She was visit-
ing a neighbor at the time, and
stepped from tlie porch when she
tripped and fell. Mrs. W. S. Swan,
sister of Mrs. Bland, who lives in
Talioka, came to be with her.
Miss Gurthelle Ijcnox, a senior
of Texas Stale College for Women,
will return to Denton Sunday to
resume her studies after spending
the holidays here with her parents,
the Rev. and Mrs. Thomas Lenox.
Miss Amelia Aimcndariz was ad-
mitted to the Sweetwater Hospital
Friday night for surgery.
L. R. Wilkins was dismissed Fri-

Hospital where he was a minor sur-
