fcr Progress
Early Times In Taft
; TEN YEARS AGO
t ton.
On October 12 the property tax paying
citizens of San Patricio County will go to
the polls to cast their ballot for or against
a two part bond issue. The first proposi-
tion will call for the issuance of $1,325,-
000 in bonds to finance the purchase of
right-of-way needs in the county for the
pext several years. The second proposition
vviit seek permission to issue bonds to
build an addition to the present court-
house to be used for additional |ail facili-
ties. The two issues are not depended
up6n each other.
The proposition of thr> road bond issue
has been before the county for several
months. The need for the improved road
facilities has been with the county for a
number of years.
A great deal of time and thought i.as
gone into the preparation of the road bond
issue and while this newspaper believes
that it has been used as a pork barrel y
the several commissioners in a number ot
instances we also believe that the great
need for ♦he improved roads, coupled wi
the safeguard^ written into the proposi-
tion, make it a worthwile issue and one
that should be favored by the voters.
Them ere certain areas of our county
that desperately . , , oved highway
facilities if they are to keep pace with the
growth of the area. We are firmly convinc-
ed that improved highway facilities will
add to the growth of the entire county.
A vote for the $1,325,000 road bond
issue on October 12 wit' be a vc e for pro-
gress in San Patricio County.
