BLUECATS' BRILLIANT PLAYMAKER
RICHARD HOLLOWAY (20) scores from
the corner on one of his patented,
high-off-the-floor jumpers over Brack's
Artis Cavanaugh in last Friday's 60-46
victory over the visiting "Green” from
Buckaroo land. Holloway's floor play
sparked the Cats' win and enabled the
locals to move closer to the 9-AA
championship. The Cats play Cisco
tonight at the Lobo gym and could
clinch the title with a win. - Reggie

Coleman Girls Lose
Close One To Breck
BY STAN BRUDNEY
The Breck team of Lana
Roberson (20 points) and
Michelle Boland 119 points)
proved to be too much for the
host Blue Katts as they
dropped a 57 54 hard fought
decision to the visitors. Brock's
victory spoiled a remarkable
shooting performance by the
Katts' pint sized forward Sandy
Warrick as she pumped in 39
points for game high honors.
It was the sixth district loss
for the local lasses but in losing,
they performed well Warrick's
outside shooting in the first-
quarter kept our gals close as
the count read 10-9 at the
buzzer.
The Blue Katts fell behind
2919 midway in the second
period but utilized strong team
work to outscore their enemy
ten to two in the waning
moments before intermission.
Breck's gals had committed 16
fouls by the locker room rest
Second half play was a

closed to within one point on
several occasions but the taller

surge, Sandy Warrick’s two

land last Friday night and was
last seen sprinting toward a
9 AA championship. An estima
ted 600 plus fans viewed the
key 9 AA matchup in the CHS
gym as the local Blue Crunch
ers won with surprising ease,
60 46.
The victory for the Cats,
their 18th in a row and 25th of
the season (252) gives the
streaking Blue a clear shot at
the title when they meet the
Cisco latboes (40 also) tonight
in the I 20 city. A win over the
Loboes clinches the 9 AA
crown for our cagers, with only
Comanche remaining on the
Cats’ schedule Friday night.
Breck's mean green has occup
ied the throne for the past
three seasons.
It took the Austin minded
locals just four seconds to dent
the scoreboard Friday night as
the amazing Super Frosh,
Reggie Childress won the
opening tip and speedy Richard
Holloway was fouled on a layup
attempt. Holloway canned one
of two free throws to give the
Cats an early 18 lead, a lead
they would never relinquish
during the ensuing 31 plus
minutes of round ball action.
Breck's shooting was “chilly"
during the opening half and the
top running felines took advan
tage of their enemies scoring
weakness. Big Blue catapulted
ahead 7 2 at the 2:31 mark of
the stanza as the first Buckaroo
bucket did not occur until 2
minutes' and 12 seconds had
ticked away on the clock. At the
buzzer, Artis Cavanaugh tossed
in "a peeper" to cut the locals'
lead to 136. Our freshman
whiz, Reggie Childress,' had
tallied eight of his teams' 13
points at that time.
Second period play was
dominated by the Bluecats.
They outscored the enemy 168
as Childress dumped in eight
more markers with scoring help
from junior Gary Watkins.
(Watkins finished the first half
with eight points in one of his
finest efforts of the campaign.)
The halftime score read 29 14
as the beloved Blue had
tightened their strangle hold on
the visitors.
Second half play was dead
even for all intents and
purposes as the Bucks could
only close to within 33 24 late in
the third period. Richard
Holloway's ball handling and
dribbling cast aside the chal
lengers' full court press in the
final half as he methodically
destroyed the green and white
at the free throw line.
