speeded requests among librar
ies. Costs of operating the
network have been paid hy
federal Library Services and
Construction Act funds admini
stored hy the Texas State
Library, During the present
fiscal year telephone and
teletype costs have been
partially paid by Texas Library
Systems Act funds.
During the past two years
major steps forward have been
made in identifying what
library materials are available
in Texas public and academic
libraries. Microfilm copies of
the Card catalogs of nine Major
Resource Center libraries are
available at the Texas State
Library.

Break-In Under
Investigation
Investigation continues on
the August 17th break-in at the
Red Man Iaxlge, reports Chief
Of Police Weldon Brown.
Entry was gained by break
ing the lock on the front door.
An estimated $50 in cash, was
taken from a music box and
cigarette machine. Too, Brown
reports a quantity of liquor was
taken.

lender in turn- will ask FmHA
for a loan guarantee if one is
required? The lender will
process the application, close
the loan and service it.
The maximum loan to any
single borrower that can be
assisted hy an FmHA guaran
tee is $250,000. Loans will be
repayable in 1 to 3 years,
although renewal for 2 years
may be authorized. Interest
rates are determined between
borrower and lender.
Hill said the agency is
authorized to guarantee up to
80 percent loss a lender may
incur on^loans to bonafide
farmers and ranchers who
breed, raise, fatten or market
beef and dairy cattle, hogs,
sheep, goats, chickens and
turkeys, A majority of the
borrower’s income must come
from the operation, and a
majority portion of the borrow
er’s time must be devoted to
the livestock or poultry pro-
duction.
Ip the case of a corporation or
partnership, assistance can be
extended only when the major
ity partners or stockholders are
primarily engaged in the
livestock or poultry production.
FmHA guarantees will be
made only when the bonafide
farmer or rancher cannot
obtain financing without a
guarantee. Loans may not be
used to expand operations.
Hill said the county FmHA
office serving the area where
the borrower's livestock or
poultry operations are conduct
ed will handle requests from
lenders for guarantees, or
supply information on the loan
guarantee program.
