In conjunction with the forthcoming Republican
Convention to be held in Dallas, delegates attending, and
also many Big D residents will have the rare opportunity of
seeing an exhibit of “Jfewish Life in America: Fulfilling the
American Dream.”
It is sponsored by the Dallas Public Library and the
Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith in cooperation with
Dallas Historical Society, Temple Emanu-El Archives and
Dallas Jewish Archives. A reception and preview by
invitation is planned for Sunday, Aug. 12, from 2-4 p.m. at
the Dallas Public Library’s Community Showcase at 1515
Young Street.
The exhibit will be open to the general public from
August 12 through September 9. Included will be more
than 250 special historical displays from sources from the
entire country. Dallas will exhibit additional historical
items of a local nature.
Spearheading the exhibition for ADL are Elaine Lerman
and Natalie Ornish who are serving as Exhibition
chairwomen.
Documentation also includes American Jewish life from
1654, when the first Jewish colony in North America’s
eastern seaboard was started by 23 Sephardic Jews who
made the perilous journey from Recife, Brazil to settle in
what was then New Amsterdam, a Dutch colony, in search
of religious freedom.
Covering almost every aspect of American Jewish life,
the exhibit will highlight principal waves of Jewish
immigration to the United States.
