WITH RENE
Two Bar Mitzvah are on the agenda this weekend.
When Layne Berman, son of Bess and Joe Berman becomes
a Bar Mitzvah at Temple Beth-EI this Friday evening,
joining in the simcah will be his grandparents, Mrs. S.
Rutlader of Fort Worth and Mr. and Mrs. Philip Berman of
Colorado City. Out-of-town guests will also include Dr. and
Mrs. Ben Andres, Sandra and Louis Caplan and Stanley, and
the Harold Markams, of Houston; Norma and Melvyn Berman
and daughter, Debbie of Port Washington, Long Island, New
York; Eve and Bill, Lipinsky, Austin; Mr. and Mrs. Maurice
Kirschbaum and grandchildren, Susan and Joe, Colorado
City and Sydell and Max Berman, Phyllis and Albert
Rudnick and sons, Michael and Fred, Shirley and Harold
Berman and family, Sylvia and Frank Bodzin and Steve,
the Martin Goldsteins, Mrs. Adell Josephson and Allen, Rica
and Shelly Saffer, Mr. and Mrs. Herschel Kornblatt and
iBridgett, Mrs. Harry Shay and Mrs. Grace Weil all of Dallas.
Layne will be honored by his parents at a reception in the
Temple Center following the Bar Mitzvah and at an Open
House at their home, 4605 Briarhaven, on Saturday evening
beginning at eight o'clock. No invitations have been issued
and jail friends are invited. ]
On Saturday morning, Joe Carr,
son of Sara and Gene Carr and
grandson of Mrs. Annie Carr and
Gertie and Abe Kantrovich will
become a Bar Mitzvah at Ahavath
Sholom Synagogue. Joining his
happy family will be aunt and uncle,
Drs. Mina and Irvin Edelman and
their children, Elaine and Ronald
and Mrs. Morris Edelman of St.
Louis; Elsie and Max Greenberg
and Sara and George Robinson of
Ardmore, Okla.; Esther and Dave
Rosenthal and son, Haskell, Annette
and Sol Weiner, Sadie and Ben Kan-
trovich, Mrs. Mildred Coleman and
the Ernie, Phil and P.S. Nussbaums,
all of Houston,; Dr. and Mrs. Marvin
Krumholtz, Austin; Bessie and Max
Choderow, Waco; and Mrs. Mary
Straughn, San Antonio. Dallas guests
will include Dorothy and Morris
Zelazney, the Ben H. Rosenthals,
Sr., Hannah and Ruby Rosenthal,
Lil and Harry Rosenthal, the Ben
H. Rosenthals, Jr., Gloria and
Harold Hoffman, Sally and Sam
Rosenthal, the Sam Yonacks, Mr.
and Mrs. Irving Yonack and the
Charles Zelazneys. The Carrs will
honor their son at a Kiddush
Luncheon in the Synagogue Cen-
ter following the Bar Mitzvah to
which all friends are invited. On
Saturday evening, his parents will
entertain at a dinner for members
of the immediate family and out-
of-town guests at the Town Club.
On Sunday afternoon, Joe will be
host at a bowling party for his
friends at th^ Wedgwood Bowlanes.
NEWS AND NOTES: Mrs. Saul
Zodin is spending a month in Miami
Beach with her sister, Mrs. Esther
Tyson. Glimpsed at a recent pro-
duction of “The Grass Harp” at the
Scott Theatre were Margo and Paul
Schwartz, Shirley and Charlie
Anton, Hortense and Steve Deifik,
Rene'and Les Kreisler, Maxine and
Jules Goldstein, Margie and Philip
Moritz and Sylvia and Jerry Weiner.
An exciting hobby for Herbie Bo-
gart, 14 year old son of Ann and
Louis Bogart, who is a licensed
radio ham operator, with all the

Estelle Masters home after a fabu-
ous seven weeks visit with her
daughters and families, Janet and
Gerry Golkin and Marian and Jimmy
Cohen and their respective offspring
in New York. Hubby, Sy joined
her for a 10 day visit. Ruth and
Morris Toback have a new South
Hills address on Lubbock after May
1. Speedy recovery wishes to Bob
Zodin and Harry Beren.
For our talented singers, audi-
tions for solo singing roles with the
Fort Worth Opera Association for
its 1970-71 season will be held from
1 until 4 p.m. Sunday, May 10
at the Tarrant County Convention
Center Theater.
The tryouts will be under the
direction of Rudolf Kruger, general
manager and musical director, and
he will be looking for singers in-
terested in roles in “The Ballad
of Baby Doe” (Dec. 4 & 6), “La
Boheme” (Jan. 22 & 24), “Don
Giovanni” (Mar. 5 & 7) and “Car-
men” (Apr. 23 & 25) - the four
productions scheduled for next
season, the Association’s 25th.
The Fort Worth Opera will have
an accompanist available for those
auditioning; however, those wishing
to bring their own accompanist may
do so.
Both male and female roles are
open in all voice ranges and persons
interested should be prepared to
sing an operatic aria of their choice.
Entrance to the Convention Center
Theater will be from the East en-
trance. (Commerce Street).

Bar Mitzvah, Saturday morning,
May 9, at Ahavath Sholom Synago-
gue. Stuart Will conduct the entire
Service beginning at 9:15 a.m. and
read the entire portion from the
Torah. Rabbi Isadore Garsek will
deliver the charge of responsibility
to the celebrant. A seventh grade
honor roll student at McLean
Junior High School, he is the
grandson of Mrs. Sol Rosenthal
and Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Gold-
stone all of Fort Worth.
