Dr. Michael Kohleriter Voted
JFS 'Volunteer of the Month’
Dr. Michael Kohleriter
Dr. Michael Kohleriter
‘The Volunteer of the
Month” for Jewish Family
Service, began his volun-
teer services during the
initial Russian resettlement
period. “Arnie Marks came
to the Dallas Alumni Chap-
ter of Alpha Omega, the
international Jewish dental
fraternity, for support to
help with the Russian immi-
grants. I then organized a
dental screening program to
help them. A group from the
fraternity met one Sunday,
X-rayed, examined and eval-
uated each client and pri-
oritzed them according to
the care and emergency
involved. We then set up
individual treatment with
the clients.” That screening
was so successful that the
Jewish Family Service ask-
ed Dr. Kohleriter and Alpha
Omega to organize a screen-
ing for the Senior Citi-
zens. He also sees many
clients either at reduced fees
or at no fees at all. Dr.
Kohleriter has also served
as the Jewish Family Ser-
vice Treasurer for three
years, as a member of the
Board of Directors for five
years, and on the Execu-
tive Committee.
As a volunteer, Dr.
Kohleriter has always been
responsive to the needs of
the Jewish Family Service

Alpha Omega Dallas
Alumni Chapter was very
fortunate to have Dr. Koh-
leriter serve as President
and continue to be an active
member. He is now a Regent
of Alpha Omega Inter-
national which helped build
Hebrew University of Den-
tal Medicine. He is also
active at Temple Shalom and
is presently serving as their
Boy Scout Troop Commit-
tee Chairman and the High
Holy Day Co-Chair. He is
also a member of the Ameri-
can Dental Association, the
Texas Dental Association,
and the Dallas Dental
Society.
Dr. Kohleriter and his
wife, Lory, came to Dallas
from Detroit. They have two
children, Kevin, age 15, an
Eagle Scout who plays tuba
in the Pearce High School
Band; and Dena, age 12, who
enjoys piano and softball.
Lory is a member of the
International Champion Ad-
ult Precision Ice Skating
Drill Team at the Galleria.
Between dental conventions
and the ice skating team, the
Kohleriters are able to enjoy
traveling as a family.
When asked why he
volunteers, Dr. Kohleriter
said, “Helping one’s own
people is so important — if I
was in the need for help, I
hope someone would help
me, too. I have worked
with other organizations be-
fore, but never with one that
worked so well with staff
and volunteers as the
Jewish Family Service does.
I’ve been so impressed with
staff, their enthusiasm and
their family orientation. It
makes me feel like part of
their family.”
If you are interested in
becoming a volunteer for
Jewish Family Service,
please contact Sue Sayah at
