The State of Israel has the high-

nominated treasurer of the Texas
Society of Certified Public Account-
ants. The nomination was announc-
ed recently at the Mid-Year meei
ing of the Society’s Board of Dire^
tors in Abilene. Upon election the_,

Toronto Borough Elects
First Jewish Mayor
TORONTO (JTA)—The Bor-
ough of York, one of six that make
up metropolitan Toronto, elected
its first Jewish mayor last week.
He is Philip White, a 46-year-old
pharmacist. Jews comprise less than
10 percent of York’s population of

CASE: Attempted Burglary
2.36 a.m. Alarm received in the Central Control Room
of Smith Alarm Systems from Levines at 141
Dallas West Shopping Center.
2.36 a.m. Dallas Police and Smith Guards dispatched.
2.36 a.m. Subscribed notified.
2.38 a.m Dallas Police arrive.
2.50 a.m. Smith Guards arrive.
3.00 a.m. Smith Guard reports that burglars gained en-
trance by knocking a hole in the concrete
block wall near the back of the building and
after entering activated the alarm system.
While police were at the rear of the building
checking out the burglars' car, the burglars
broke out the front plate qlass window and
fled on foot. Burglars were apprehended and
taken into custody.
This is jus+ another burglary case that resulted in the
capture of the. burglars. Handled by the Dallas Police
Department, in cooperation with Smith Alarm Service,
the result wes: NO LOSS T0 SUBSCRIBERS!

members of the Congregation and
friends are invited. Grandparent
honors are shared by Mrs. Anna-
belle Sholdar of Minneapolis and
Mr. Bernard Pevsner of Memphis.
Joseph will use a Torah which
belonged to his great grandfather,
Zalomon Pevsner, who brought it
from Nisen, Russia when he came
to the United States. The Torah
was formerly used in the Memphis
Hebrew Academy.
The celebrant will be honored by
his parents with a luncheon Satur-
day at the Hilton Inn for which
invitations have been issued. In
the evening the celebrant wiil be
further honored with a reception
at home for which invitations have
also been issued. Out of town guests
include Mrs. Annabeile Sholdar,
Minneapolis; Messers and Mesdames
Sam Dashefsky and family, Leo
Pevsner, Rabbi David Tamarkin,
Messers Harold and David Passman,
