NEW YORK (WNS) The Morning

was tricked last week into publishing
a poem attacking Stalin and call-

a name. Discovery of the hoax cre-
ated quite a sensation. The New York
Times headlined the story “Rec
Freiheit’s Face Red” while all the
Yiddish papers gave it front page
coverage. In Yiddish literary circles
there was much speculation about
the autorship of the poem, which
showed skilled workmanship. The
Freiheit reacted to the incident by
blasting the war mongers and reacti-
onaries and by reminding its readers
how the Soviet Army liberated the
Jews from Hitlerism.
The poem, by one David Viler,
reads:

MADDEN MAD AT RANKIN
OUTBURSTS AGAINST JEWS
WASHINGTON (WNS) Represent-
ative R. Madden of Indiana, who
last week nodded assent when Con-
gressman John Rankin charged that
“Yiddish Communists” were dominat-
ing Russia and the satellite countries,
this week cleansed himself of af-
filiation with Rankin s view in a
statement on the floor of the House
in which he paid tribute to Jewish
loyaltv and patriotism.
Congressman Madden asked that
his statement of approval of Rankin s
charge be expunged from the Con-
gressional Record. The Indiana Law-
maker declared:
“The patriotism and the loyalty
of the Jews has been tested in war-
time and in peacetime. It reveals a
brilliant and patriotic service to their
country. The Jewish people of this
country have given far more than
their share of lives and money to
help our country in all times of
crisis. They are now sacrificing mil-
lions upon millions of dpllars to help
Israel survive in order to preserve
their homeland and also to fight the
Communist aggressor. Testimony has
been presented at the Katyn hearings
where a great number of heroes who
died at Katyn were Polish Jews.

necessary to establish the position:
of the Jewish people as far as patrio-
tism, liberty and freedom are concern-
ed. Their record speaks for itself..
During World War II, the Jewish
representation in the armed services
was far above its pro rata allotment.
A large concentration of Jewish people
live in metropolitan centers. Agri-
cultural, mining, and metal industries,
and so forth, which were favored by
draft exemptions did not apply to>
metropolitan centers. Besides the rel-
atively large proportion of Jewish
boys taken in the draft, there were
approximately 35,000 Jewish volun-
teers.”

PERSON SAYS HE LIQUIDATED
DISCRIMINATION
BUENOS AIRES (WNS) President
Juan Peron this week told a delegation
of Jews that he has “totally and
absolutely liquidated discrimination”
in his country.
The delegation represented the pro-
Peronist Organization Israelite Ar
gentina. Lauding Jewish ability, the
President said he abhorred all forms
of discrimination. “Why,” he asked
“should these superior manifestations
of human intelligence be lost or is-
olated and enclosed in a national
circle? We absolutely oppose this,
type of unjustified segregation within
the Argentine community. We ask you
to work and fight against prejudices
within your own group where they
have no reason to exist since we
have totally and absolutely liquidated
discrimination.”

BY DISAPPEARANCE OF
ISRAEL’S INVENTION
LONDON (WNS) Israeli police of-
ficials and Scotland Yard operators
are cooperating on) a piece of detective
work that has so far baffled the
sleuths of both countries.
The investigation centers on the
mysterious disappearance of a report-
edly sensational invention by an Israeli
engineer whose blue-print and draft
vanished on a London-bound plane
which took off from Tel Aviv.
