■ Mark Elfenbein and Steve Shapiro of Carrollton, co-hosts of KEKA 90.1’s
“Saturday Morning Sports.”
Popular sportscasters for a sports show. Both
Mark Elfenbein and Steve have a bit of media ex-
Shapiro will be the guest perience in their

co-hosts of KERA 90.1’s The Brotherhood will
“Saturday Morning Spor-
ts” “as a shot in the
dark” last May. They
guest-hosted the one-hour
call-in show for two weeks
before being given the
permanent assignment on
May 12. Shapiro and
Elfenbein took over the 10
a.m. Saturday time slot,
vacated March 31 by
Norm Hitzges, who had
been KERA 90.1’s sports
host for nearly 15 years.
Unlike Hitzges and other
area sports show hosts,
however, the pair are not
sports professionals:
Shapiro, of Carrollton,
works in MacMillan
Publishing Company’s
marketing department,
and Elfenbein, who lives
in Plano, is a sales
representative for Im-
perial Textile Sales 11.
What they share with their
more experienced fellow
hosts is a broad and deep
love of sports—the
statistics, histories and
personalities that make
sports shows among the
most popular talk shows
on the air. Two weeks
ago, they both appeared
at Lord & Taylor
Prestonwood for two
hours before many of
their fans.
“It’s really a great
story,” said KERA 90.1
program director Michael
Nitka. “They called a few
days after Norm’s final
show, said what big fans
they were, and asked if
they could come in and
talk about their own ideas
also present awards and
trophies to this fall’s
Shalom League’s ball
players. The breakfast
menu will feature a lox
spread and bagels and all
the trimmings. Wives and
guests are welcome. Ad-
ded information is
available from Bob Wein-
feld, 386-8100.
