stint in community ser-
vice was as publicity
chairperson of the
Women's Division of
the Jewish Federation
of Greater Dallas, a
suggestion made by her
new friend, Hortense
Sanger. She later served
as Chair of the Wom-
en's Division Campaign.
The Beers were invit-
ed to participate in Fed-
eration's First Mission to
israel.
Soon after, she atten-
ded classes at South-
ern Methodist Uni-
versity in the Depart-
ment of Psychology and
received credit from Bar-
nard College to com-
plete the degree she had
begun twenty years be-
fore. Marriage, World
War II and the birth of
three sons had prevent-
ed her from complet-
ing her academic pur-
suits and in 1965, she re-
ceived her Bachelor's
Degree in psychology
from Barnard College.

Responding to the trem-
endous needs in the
greater Dallas commun-
ity, in the late 1960's,
Gerry volunteered in
Temple Emanu-El s
Rhoads Terrace pre-
school project, and
later become chair-
woman of the entire
Rhoads Terrace Pro-
ject where she was in-
strumental in gathering
funds, volunteers and
professionals to create
the model day care cen-
ter in the middle of the
housing project. While
the children attend-
ed the program, the
parents were taught

Rhoads Terrace became
a part of Childcare Dal-
las.
Her commitment to
humanity and commun-
ity has propelled Beer
to serve as a volun-
teer counselor at the
Dallas Woman's Center,
a co-founder and co-
chair of the Domestic
Violence Intervention

woman for the Family
Place Proiect, which of-
ficially open its doors at
a house on Oaklawn in

Dedication Ceremony March 5
The Federation's
Teacher Learning Cen-
ter, which recently relo-
cated to a new location
in the lower level of the
Jewish Community Cen-
ter, has scheduled
dedication ceremonies
for this Sunday, March
5, 3:45-5:00 p.m in their
expanded facilities.
The construction of
the new Teacher Learn-
ing Center is a gift in
loving honor of the
teachers and children of
the Dallas commun-
ity from the children of
Donald and Barbara
Zale. These new
facilities were made
possible through the
generosity of: Dr. Quin
and Dana Zale Gerard,
George and Julie Zale
Tobolowsky and Barry
and Mimi Fry Zale.
TLC Director Eileen
Rosenblum reported
that the Dedication
Planning Committee has
designed a program to
celebrate the TLC's ex-
panded facilities. One
highlight of the program
will be tours of the new
location. The planning
committee, consisting
of TLC Advisory Council
members Glenda
Naiditch, Dr. Sol Lurie
and Peggy Trubitt,
worked with Barbara
Zale and the Zale
children during the
planning process.
The dedication will
include we I l-k nown
local educators: Rabbi
Edward Feinstein, Rabbi
David Leibtag and Rab-
bi Sheldon Zimmer-
man. Musical enter-
tainment will be pro-
vided by Miriam
C reemer and Sherri
Stohl
The Teacher Learning
Center is located on the

Jewish Community Cen-
ter (past the Tycher
Library down the stairs),
