ELECTION TIME COMING:
The School Board election which comes up April 7 will have two
of ourtowners on the slate. A doctor’s wife, Mrs. Irving Rapfogel,
and Dr. Abe Greines are running for positions on the Board. Dr.
Greines is up for reelection, Ruth Rapfogel is up for her first elective
office. Other candidates are: Roy Michener, William S. Potts, Mrs.
Mai Rumph, J. Roy Brooks, F. A. Reynolds, Dr. James N. Walker,
Carey K. West Jr., and Loyd L. Turner.
NEWS AND NOTES:
Many more happy anniversaries to Ida and Usher Goldsmith of
Tyler, who marked their twenty-fifth last Thursday. Added good
wishes to Syde and George Rashti, who observe their Silver Annivers-
ary next Friday, the 30th, and who are happily in the midst of ex-
citing plans for a Hawaiian Cruise.
Between the time Faye (Mrs.
Jimmy) Cohen left Fort Worth
and her arrival in Detroit for a
visit with daughter, Rhoda and Jay
Schultz and their youngster, Cher-
yl, another new granddaughter,
Lori, was present to greet her upon
her arrival. Rachel and David
Cristol (doctor son of the Louis
Cristols of our town) are stationed
with the U. S. Army in Alaska.
Louise Engel and son, Gary Scott
of Corpus Christi are visiting her
folks, the David Rubensteins. Ida
Rubin and Ann Laves enjoying the
visit of mutual cousin, Mrs. Lillie
Weissman of Brooklyn, N. Y. In
Lubbock, Wednesday, to attend the
Bris of infant Sol Russell Dwork-
in, were beaming grandma, Lena
Dworkin with Idelle and Mike Rov-
ir ,xy and Ida Nudleman. Children
and measles permitting, Bea and
Sonny Levine and family hope to
spend Passover with her brother
and family in Pensecola, Fla. Dor-
othy Rosenstein leaves April 7 for
a Cleveland and New York vaca-
tion.
Bonnie and Phil Leven and son,
Bobby, are dividing their vacation
between Chicago and St. Louis.
Raibbi and Mrs. I. Garsek have as
their holiday guests, his mother
and dad, Mr. and Mrs. J. Garsek of
Des Moines, la. Sara and Mike
Korman due back from Las Vegas
this weekend. Dotty and Jack Sieg-
el post good wishes to ourtowners
from the Taj Mahal in India.
Speedy recovery wishes to Mrs. A.
Gardner. Sandy Katz just back
from a visit with her in-laws in
Tyler. Hannah Nussbaum of Aus-
tin, house guest of her sister, Ger-
tie and Abe Kantrovich last week-
end, visited with her Fort Worth
kinfolk, the Rosenthals.
Congratulations to Sue Goldstein
pretty teen-age daughter of Rae
and Bennie Goldstein, who out of
108 entrants in the Elk’s Statewide
Leadership Contest, won second
place. Sue, who was presented with
a bouquet of red roses and a $25
savings bond, at the local Elks
meeting last week, will be honored
at the Statewide Convention to be
held in Fort Worth in June and
will be presented with a $50 bond
at that time. A Paschal senior,
Sue, has the lead in her class play,
“I Remember Mama” with the role
of Mama.

Joyce and Easer Rovinsky and
two year old son, Joel, are settl-
ing themselves in their new home
at 614 Post St., in Gladewater
where Easer manages the K. Wol-
ens Emporium. Arthur Miller
placed second and Sid Raimey and
Stanley Schiller, third, in Fort
Worth Bridge Association matches
at the Texas last week. Eleanor
and Leon Gachman just back from
a New York whirl. Speaking of the
big city, Adele and Bob Friedman
and sion, Jeffrey, leave this week-
end for a Passover visit with his
folks there. Dr. Elihu Klein of
Galveston was introduced to his
new nephew, Leslie David Rosen-
thal, son of Bess and Alfred Ros-
enthal, at the Bris, Sunday. Men-
tion of the Gulf City reminds us
that Jennie and Max Baum will
holiday with their children and
family in our town. Happy Ray-
mond Whites celebrated their 37th
Anniversary as guests of the
Charles Cohens at Southwood.
Former ourtowners Mrs. Rebecca
Hirsch and daughter, Maxine
Blankfield of Port Arthur recent
guests of Myer Gabert. Dorothea
and Gary Baum will weekend in
Kansas City and greet his sister
visiting there from her home in
Rio de Janeiro. The Leo Karrens
left Friday for an extended motor
trip with destination, Miami Beach.
All good wishes to Eva and Hy-
man Hudwitz in their new home
at 808 Sceyne Road in Kilgore.
Added good wishes to Marian and
Maier Joseph, who celebrated their
thirteenth wedding anniversary,
yesterday, the 21st. Guests of An-
ita and Ralph Uhrmacher during
the coming holidays will be her
sister, Clarice and Ben Pasternack
and their son, Brucie, of Albuquer-
que, N. M. Mrs. Lydia Heilbron,
of Texarkana guesting with daugh-
ter Martine and Marcus Ginsburg
and family. Zelda Toby and chil-
dren will soon be off to Tyler to
spend the Passover season with the
Nate Davises. Usher Goldsmith and
Mrs. J. Wolfson. Which reminds

Congratulations to Herbie Les-
ser, son -of Dr. and Mrs. Sol
Lesser and Bill Sacks, son of Mrs.
Bernice Sacks, who were named to
this semester’s Dean’s List for ex-
cellence in Scholarship at Rice In-
stitute in Houston. Another youth-
ful member of the Lesser family
claimed honors last week when the
downtown Rotary Club honored
Scouting and Marvin Lesser was
chosen as the Scout to be honored.
Southwood jackpot flourishing
with $290 in the offing this Sunday
night. Fifty dollar winner last
weekend was Edwin Cohen, TuLane
student son of Ida and Adolph Co-
hen. Etta and Sol Brachman leave
mid-week for a Nassau vacation.

field, Mo., home following a visit
with his folks, the Herman Sam-
