Yaffa Block
| Dallas will make headlines next week as Israel’s #1
designer, Gideon Oberson, brings his sportswear and haute
couture line to the Metroplex area. Oberson’s Southwest
Regional Representative, Yaffa Block, says that a special
fashion premiere of his line will be presented on Friday,
October 22, in the Great Hall of the Apparel Market.
Oberson will appear as guest designer during the Women
j and Children’s Spring Apparel Market, Oct. 22-27. The
; designer introduced his swimwear and beachwear division
' in the United States three years ago. His line is currently
marketed in Europe, South Africa, Australia, South
America, and in more than 200 stores throughout the
United States. [His beachwear line can be found in the
Dallas Area at “Just Add Water,” Stiles House of Fashion,
Sakowitz, Katy’s and many others.
i The 39 year-old designer
is a native of Italy. He has
achieved world wide acclaim
for his couture and ready to
wear fabrics imported from
France and Italy. These
all-natural fabrics include
silks, cottons, organza, crepe
| and linen. His swimwear
1 fabrics also Italian imports
are polyamid, lycra and 100
percent cotton.
Yaffa Block has maintain-
ed the permanent Oberson
showroom in the Apparel
Market for the past three
seasons. Yaffa, an active
member of the Dallas
Jewish Community, has
lived in Dallas the past 15
years. She is the wife of
Rafael Block, and the moth-
er of two sons, Gilad, a sixth
grade student at the St.
Mark’s School, and Eldad, a
second grade student at
Akiba Academy.
Mr. and Mrs. George
Schenkler have returned
from Springfield, Mass, fol-
lowing a visit with their son,
Donald Levy, and his wife,
Sandy, former Dallas resi-
dents. Donald is Director of
Counseling for Special
Need’s Students at the
Lower Pioneer Valley Edu-
cation Collaborative in Long-
meadow, Mass., a suburb of
Springfield. He also teaches
two classes. The Schenklers
enjoyed visiting with rela-
tives and friends, and taking
a tour of the scenic New
England Indian fall. They

Sheelo New Director Of Israel Aliyah Center
Yossef Sheelo has been
named the new regional
director of the Israel Aliyah
Center in Houston.
He succeeds Ben-Tzion
Levi, who has returned to
Israel to resume his career
in educational television.
Sheelo arrived in Houston
with his wife, Ahuva, and
their son, Noam.
Born 32 years ago in the

Jewish state, the new
director comes from one of
the oldest settlements in
Israel. Graduating with hon-
ors from Bar Ilan University
in Ramat Gan, Sheelo has a
degree in political science
and criminology.
Since 1975 he has been
employed as an editor of
domestic news by Yediot
Aharanot, the leading Israeli
newspaper. His military
service in the Israel Defense
Force has been in the
intelligence unit.
Sheelo will be serving the
states of Arizona, Louisiana,
Mississippi, New Mexico,
Oklahoma and Texas.
He will be at Dallas JCC,
next Wednesday and Thurs-
day, Oct. 20 and 21.

The future bride was graduated from the University of
Arizona with a B.S. degree and Southern Methodist
University with an M.S. degree in speech pathology. She is
employed as the speech pathologist for Apple Tree Home
Health Agency in Dallas.
Her fiance received his B.A. degree in anthropology and
religious studies from Southern Illinois University and
M.A. degree from U.C.L.A. in anthropology. He is
employed as a college textbook sales representative for
Academic Press Publishers.
The couple will be married on June 26 at Beth El
Congregation in Phoenix.
