Alternative Medicine
continued from p. 18
agement techniques, herbal
therapy, biofeedback, or acu-
puncture as adjunctive mea-
sures to the scientific ap-
proach.
These alternative ap-
proaches should be used only
after it has been determined
that no organic process is
present which could be ar-
rested or cured by the tradi-
tional approach.
The alternative measures
do sometimes foster a feel-
ing of hope and a positive
attitude which can be of help
in the healing process. The
danger comes from charla-
tans who make false claims
and who bypass scientific
medicine.
Charlatans in any branch
of the health care field should
be exposed and ostracized,
but those who are not should
be able to work together for
the good of the patient. It is
important to remember that a
physician is taught “first, do
no harm.”

rently the Medical Direc-
tor of the CRC at All Saints
Hospital.
