TEXAS JEWISH POST, DALLAS, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 23, 1993 - IN OUR 47TH YEARI
Rabbi Ray Visits Shearith Israel | B’nai B’rith Honors Hernan Abrams
Or. Eric Ray, Master
Scribe, spent about a week
with Congregational
Shearith Israel as part of the
“Year of the Torah” celebra-
tion last month.
His gentle charisma and
love of his special work was
communicated to students
throughout the Religious
School seniors. It was an
incredibly moving experi-
ence to watch him captivate
everyone in that large age
span by showing them his
tools, his skills, and sharing
with them his love for the
Torah.
Every group he met wan ted
to spend much more time
with Dr. Ray.. Children
huddled closer and closer to
watch, to learn, to touch, and
s
to take with them a sample of
his talent.
The excitement has spread
into the classrooms where
teachers are working in ev-
ery grade on special projects
to celebrate the “Year of the
Torah” and the dedication of
the new scroll. Rabbi Ray
will return as scbolar-iin-resi-
dence in March
