B’nai B’rith Women Need Volunteers
For Work At Lena Pope Home
(EDITOR’S NOTE: Mrs. Sam
Reznkoff har written the fol-
lowing article to acquaint the;
community with the work of
B’nai B’rith Women at the Lena j
Pope Home. It is a privilege
for this newspaper to provide
its columns for a report on this
very wo.rthwhile community ser-
vice project. The need for this
project steadily increases while
the number of interested volun-
teers dwindles. We hope this ar-
ticle will rectify the situation.)
“In 1958 B’nai B’rith Women
started a Nursery School for 4
and 5-year-old children at Lena
Pope Babyland, as this school

was one of the necessary re-
j quirements for Lena Pope to ob-
tain a license that would enable
them to place some of these
i children for adoption and into
foster homes. This is still one
of the most valid reasons for
its continuence. In addition to
this however, many of the chil-
dren are not adoptable but in i
our school is the only place they !
are allowed to handle crayons,
pencils, scissors, paints, etc.
Children living in normal home
surroundings are well acquaint-
ed with these things before they
enter the public schools. Fori
the past 4 years B’nai B’rith i
Women have done an adrnira-!
ble job with hundreds of chil-:
dren who have passed through
our school.
“This school is former years
was open four days a week from
9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. dur-
ing the school year and has
been staffed entirely by volun-
teer workers. Our enrollment
varies from 18 to 25 children
daily. At present we have 23
children and have had to cut
down from 4 to 3 days a week
because of a shortage of volun-
teers.
“Since 1958 there have been
many devoted women involved
in this project. At present our
staff includes: Mrs. Ben Rubin,
and M.rs. David Berkowitz, on
Mondays; Mrs. Stanley Roskin,
Mirs. Hans Fels, Mrs. Irving
Robinson, and Mrs. Martin San-

taken out of the home on field,
trips—to the zoo, to the mu-
