Golden advice given
Nine Golden droppings for the
fourth Texas Silver-Haired
Legislature.
1. “What are old people good
for?” This is the only generation
ever to stammer while trying to
answer.
2. Why can’t the elderly have
rap songs? Mine will be dedicated
to the generations to come
(maybe). I’ll entitle the rapid
mumbling, “We didn’t want to
hurt you feelings with the truth,
so we borrowed (and let them
steal) trillions so we could
pamper you, while rejecting you
all the while.” I could jump with
genuine shock to that rap.
3. Animals, it seems, develop
quite yet a flatulent, dyspepic,
dysphoric old thing. It really is a
feat worthy of a standing ovation
daily when anyone escapes the
discouraging rodent race. My
secret is my belief in a Loving
God who has a great sense of
humor, and who may rush in with
Djvine Intervention at any
moment.
I know that’s a dangerous state-
ment to make with all the institu-
tionalized mind-police marching
about. So I’ll just smile and say
I was just kidding and “I don’t
remember.” You see, we can learn
something useful from politicians
if we take them seriously but not
gravely.

BV Farewell,
Krusekopf
Dear Editor:
As we bid a fond farewell to
Editor Henry Krusekopf, we
thank him for his years of signifi-
cant leadership at the Smithville
Times.
We wish him well in his new
endeavors.
Henry fit in well in the string of
competent Smithville editors,
people who were both capable
and caring.
The editor shapes the paper,
partly through her or his staff.
The publisher employs the editor
and helps to set the tone of what
is published. *
Smithville and Bastrop have
good papers partly because their
publisher, Dave Smith, hired
these editors. We thank all three
of them.
I hope that Mr. Smith can find
an editor to equal Henry
Krusekopf. If so Smithville will
continue to be blessed. ;
Sincerely,
David Carson

thanks to all
Dear Editor:
The Bluebonnet Volunteer Fire
Department and Auxiliary would
like to take this opportunity to say
“thank you” for your support in
making our 20th barbecue and
auction a success.
We especially want to thank all
the business merchants in
Bastrop and individuals for their
generous contributions to our
auction.
lb all those, too numerous to
mention by name in fear of omit-
ting someone, for their contribu-
tions to the country store, plant
booth, fish pond, worked at
booths, did the barbecuing, cook-
ed beans and made salad, again,
thanks a million. Without your
help our annual event would not
have been the success that it was.
The following were the winners
of the raffle-Ruby Smith, Velda
James, Ken Oehler, Nancy Babb
and Sherri Lee Meeks.
Sincerely,
