Bears go for consolation Saturday
r"
By Elian Moore
Sports Editor
The Bastrop varsity baseball
teanx,traveled to Brownwood this
week to play in the big,
prestigious Brownwood
tournament.
Bastrop lost its first game
Thursday, against host team
Brownwood, 3-1, but bounced
back Friday and beat Dallas
Spruce 8-2.
The Bears will play Llano for
consolation Saturday.
“The Brownwood game was
really exciting,” Bear varsity
coach Jay McCarty said by
telephone Friday. “We had a
chance to stop them in the bottom
of the sixth, and we had runners
on second and third in the sixth
with two outs. Jason Mouser hit
a line drive right at the short stop.
We justcouldn’t seem to find the
hole.”
Coach McCarty was without his
book, with complete statistics.
But promised to provide them
after Bastrop plays the consola-
tion game Saturday.
In the 3-1 loss to Brownwood
Kendal Adare was the losing pit-
cher, giving him an 0-2 record for
the year. He gave up two hits and
struck out 10.
“It was a really good game,” he
repeated. Brownwood was up 2-1
in the bottom of the sixth and got
a run to mate it 3-1. Then we had
thejchance in the sixth.”
Adrian Castilleja got the Bears’
one rbi, when he singled in Chad
Cox in the sixth inning.
In the game Bastrop made four
errors to Brownwood’s three.
Against Dallas Spruce on Fri-
day, Nathan Koi was the winning
pitcher in the 8-2 rout. Koi now
goes up to 1-1 in season play.
“They ran out of pitchers,”
McCarty said. “We got up on
them and they never threatened
Nathan. We were in control all the
way. We really dominated this
game. Everybody contributed
and everybody got to play.”
Dallas Spruce had two runs,
four hits and four errors in the
game Bastrop had eight runs,
nine hits and no errors. Koi struck
out 10 men on the way to victory.
