will try our hardest to make this
happen.
Our Goals
— Purchase new radios
— Continuing education for our
firefighters.
— Purchase new gear and tools
— Purchase a new truck to replace
an older truck.
The members of the Valley Mills
Volunteer Fire Department wish to
thank the citizens of the community
for the support and contributions to
our fire department. Your have
enabled us to become better equipped
and better trained.
Our services have always been free
to the citizens and visitors of your
community. We are 100 percent
volunteer and we give freely of our
time. The cost of training and
equipment is significant and your
contributions assure that the latest
training and equipment is attainable.
To properly outfit one firefighter costs
$5,000; now multiply that by 40.
Your contributions are always
welcome and used to the best of our
ability. Donations may be mailed to
PO Box 239, Valley Mills, Tx. 76689.
Thank you for your past and future
support
Chief Brady Schuetz and
all the Volunteer Members.

of events that will be updated
regularly. Our goal will be easy access
to information that is relevant and
accurate.
Weekly Calendar
The superintendent's office will be
publishing a weekly calendar in the
Valley Mills Progress that will have a
list of the upcoming events for the
district. The first installment of that
calendar is in this week's paper. As
always we will have our newspaper
articles written by staff and/or the
newspaper's reporters.
Radio Station
We have been working with Ms.
Donna Veteto to move the radio
equipment from city hall to the high
school. We are going to try to have
the station operational again this
school year. Our goal will be to
broadcast news and upcoming events
for the Valley Mills Eagles.
Notes and mail outs
We will continue to send notes
home with your students and have
mail outs when appropriate.
If you feel you should have
received a note or letter please feel
free to contact us. We are still human
and with that comes the opportunity
for human error.
My grandfather always said, "You
can lead a horse to water but you can't
make him drink".
Well the same holds true about
communication. We can put out all
this information but we can't make
you read it. Hopefully, with so many
forms of media we will find at least
one that suits everyone in the
community.
Student and Staff Safety
As a district we are always
improving our policy, procedures and
facilities to make sure our students
and staff members are as safe as
possible. Throughout last school year
and this summer we have been
upgrading our systems to make that
possible.
School Access
At the elementary school
individuals wishing to access the
student areas must check in at the
office and have their driver's license
scanned. They must wear a name tag
the entire time that they are on the
campus and check out with the office
when they leave the campus. They
cannot access the students without
being let in the door by the secretary
or principals.
This year for elementary drop off,
parents are being asked to drop their
children off at the cafeteria and they
will not have access to the remainder
of the building unless they have
scheduled a conference with a staff
member. This will help limit access
to anyone who has not been through
the check-in procedures.
At the high school, all exterior
doors will now be locked with only
two access points available during the
school day. The access points are at
the superintendent's office and at the
doors immediately to the right of the
principal's office if you are looking
at the front of the high school
building.
There are intercom systems at these
two doors that reach the secretary's
desk at both locations. You must state
your business and they will allow
your entrance.
A driver's license scan will also be
performed in the high school office
for anyone wishing to access the
student areas. Then you will be
required to check in to the appropriate
office for a visitor's pass. Appropriate
signage will be posted to help guide
you to the proper location. You must
check out prior to leaving the campus
as well.
Sex Offender Policy
Pursuant to the Texas Code of
Criminal Procedures, anyone who has
ever been found guilty of a reportable
conviction or adjudication, pled guilty
or nolo contendere to a crime listed
in that article or has been required by
law to register with the Sex Offender
Registry and whose victim was
under the age of 18 at the time of the
offense may not enter or be present
upon any school district property or
event. Except as otherwise provided
in this policy, any adult sex offender
meeting the above criteria will be
asked to leave the District property
or event and law enforcement will be
notified.
The district will enforce this law
using the following policy and
procedures. All visitors will be
required to have their driver's license
scanned by the office personnel.
Refusal to do so will cause immediate
removal from the campus. Campus
principals and the superintendent
have the authority to remove anyone
who causes a disruption or refuses to
follow the guidelines below.
Parent Sex Offender
Where a student's parent, guardian
or other person having lawful control
of the student under a valid court
order is a sex offender as defined
above, that person may only enter on
District property under the following
limited circumstances:
— To attend a scheduled conference
with school personnel to discuss the
student's academic or social progress,
promotion/retention, assignment/
reassignment, attendance,
participation in school-related
activities, or discipline;
— To attend an ARD or IEP meeting
or other conference where evaluation
or placement decisions may be made
respecting the student's special
education services;
— To pick up assignments from the
campus administrative office;
— To transport the student to or
from school;
— To attend the student's high
school graduation; or
— To attend any meeting requested
by the campus administration.
The individual will be supervised
and accompanied by school personnel
at all times. The individual must sign
out at the campus administrative
office upon departure. If the
individual is on District property for
any other purpose and without
permission, he or she will be subject
to removal and/or arrest.
Should a sex offender parent,
guardian, or other person having
lawful control of the student under a
valid court order seek to enter District
property for any other purpose, he or
she must submit a Sex Offender
Visitation Request form (see GKC
exhibit) and obtain written permission
from the superintendent or the
superintendent's designee. Until
written permission based upon the
Request form is received, the
individual submitting the request may
not enter District property except
under the limited circumstances set
out above.

circumstances set out above, and
individual will not be permitted to
enter or be present on school property
if: (1) the individual's parental rights
have been terminated, (2) the
individual's presence at school is
prohibited by court order or
conditions of probation, or (3) the
Superintendent determines that the
individual poses a unique threat to
student safety. In those cases,
communications regarding the
student will be conducted by alternate
means such as telephone, mail, or
electronic communications. Where
the administration determines that a
meeting is necessary, it will identify
an appropriate meeting place where
students are not present.
Volunteers
An adult sex offender as defined
above may not serve as a volunteer
with the District and may not
participate in school-related activities
or field trips.
Please understand that these
policies will be enforced not to cause
hardship on anyone but to insure the
safety of the children and staff of
Valley Mills ISD. As a district we
must require everyone to follow the
law or we set a dangerous precedent
that could set the district up for a
situation which endangers children in
the future.
Internet/Social Media Safety
In today's world, students are
exposed to so many issues that we as
adults never had to face when we
were their age. As a district we try to
stay out ahead of all the dangers that
we know about including safety on
the internet and social media.
We have all heard the horror stories
of students or adults who have had
their identities stolen or have been
cyber bullied to terrible ends. We have
been working with a company who
does assemblies on this very topic and
will spend a day talking to our
children about the dangers that exist
out there. They will also be training
the staff on how to help students when
issues arise.
Texting and driving
The high school will be working to
bring in a speaker on the dangers of
texting and driving.
Administrators feel that it is an
issue that they will focus on
throughout the school year.
We will also continue to provide the
regular array of information to our
students and parents concerning
student safety. As a district we strive
to make each day a success for the
students of Valley Mills ISD. There
are many other projects and programs
that are happening in the district that
I do not have room to mention.
However, I wanted to share this
information concerning two topics
that I know were concerns at the end
of the 2012-2013 school year. As
always, if you have any questions or
concerns please feel free to contact
the campus administrators and/or
myself and we will do our best to
address the issue.
Have a great remainder of your
summer. See you on August 26.
Dylan and Raydon also earned the
highest award a Cub Scout can earn,
the Arrow of Light. They received a
patches and card along with a pin to
present to their mothers. They also
received a ceremonial arrow to hag
in their rooms. This arrow is to remind
them to choose the right path in their
lives each day though their journey
of life. Cub Master Kristin Power then
gave the boys a walking stick she had
made for them to use in their next
adventures.
