Library hosts
salad lunch Friday
Friends of the Library met
Monday to finalize plans for
the annual Salad Luncheon
fund-raiser set for Friday.
Proceeds will benefit the
Gladys Johnson Ritchie Li-
brary.
The take-out lunches con-
sist of chicken salad, pasta
salad, fruit salad, a sugar
cookie, and crackers for $7.
Lunches should be picked
up from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at
the Church of Christ activity
building.

Ice cream connoisseurs crank up
great taste
Jack County Museum held
their Ice Cream Crank Off
Friday, Oct. 7.
The event had eight entries.
First place went to Lucille
Tipton with her chocolate ice
cream, Debbie Horton Col-
bert won second with Grand-
ma Horton’s Ice Cream and
third place was Frances Eas-
ter’s Maple Pecan Ice Cream.
The event was held in con-
junction with the 3rd Annual
Texas Forts Trail Bike Ride.
Our splendid ice cream
makers were gracious enough
to share their recipes with the
public.
Chocolate Ice Cream
2 cans Eagle Brand Milk
8 ounces cool whip
Fill with chocolate milk and
freeze.
Grandma Horton’s Ice
Cream
1 can Eagle Brand milk
2 small cans Pet milk
2 cups sugar
2 tsp. Whiskey (may use va-
nilla)
pinch of salt
2 eggs
Mix and pour into freezer
can, fill with milk. May put
fruit in if desired.
Maple Pecan Ice Cream
3 cups whipping cream
3 eggs, well beaten
l-Vi cups maple syrup
Vi cup brandy
1 tsp. Maple flavoring
Pinch of salt
2 cups sugar
1 Vi cups c
4 cups mi]
chopped pecans
In large saucepan, combine
cream, maple syrup, maple
flavoring and sugar.
Cook mixture, stirring until
sugar has dissolved.
Transfer mixture to large
bowl and add milk, eggs,
brandy and salt.
Cover and chill for at least
3 hours.
On baking sheet, toast pe-
cans for 10 minutes at 325.
Add pecans to chilled ice
cream mixture, and freeze in
ice cream freezer.

Car show cruisin’ through the fort
Guys and Gals Car Club
held their last show of the
year, Saturday, Sept. 17.
They started at the Jacks-
boro High School parking
lot and cruised through Fort
Richardson State Park before
parking on the north side of
the Jack County Courthouse.
Participants were serenaded
by the Jacksboro High School
Purple Pride Band.
A moment of silence, a reci-
tation of the Pledge of Al-
legiance, and the JHS Band
played the “Star Spangled
Banner” to honor past and
•esent military personnel
i first responders.
Winners were as follows:
Best of Show, Fred Calhoun
of Jacksboro with a 1953
GMC pickup and Driver’s
Choice went to Gene King of
Decatur with a 1955 Chevy
2-door.
