to run it. In two tries at the
line Boby Don Walker punched
through for his third touch-
down of the night. Rhodes’ try7
for extra point was blocked.
Mineola 18, Grand Saline 14.
The Indians took the follow-
ing kick-off and marched all
the way for a touchdown, Sul-
livan brought back a short kick
14 yards to the 41. Sullivan
was stopped after a three-yard
pick-up but a pass play clicked
for five. Thompson then hit the
line for two and a first down on
the Jacket 49. Long, a fleet
140-pounder, skirted end for
27 yards to the Jacket 22. Sul-
ivan was stopped after a one-
yard gain, but on the next try

he went around right end for
18 yards before being brought
down on the two. On his next
try the big fullback plunged
over the winning touchdown.
The point try was good ancl the
count was 21-18.
An attempt at an on-side
kick failed and the Jackets got
the ball on the Indian 44. With
only a few short miuntes to
play, it looked like the break
the Jackets needed. But on the
first try from scrimmage Kel-
ley fumbled after finding a
hole for about ten yards. The
Indians recovered on the 35.
Long and Sullivan were thrown
for short losses, and a pass
play for ten yards was shy of
a first down. The punt was
ruled dead on the Jacket 25.
With about a minute to go Kel-
ley started heaving long pass-
es, but his receivers were too
were covered and three were
incomplete. Walker then got
off his only punt of the game,
a 42-yard boot to the Indian
33. After a penalty for delay-
in the game and two quarter-
back sneaks Sullivan went
around end for 14 yards and
a first down before Huffman
brought him down. Two quar-
terback sneaks got nothing and
Kelley caught Lawrence for a
two-yard loss. Sullivan got ten
but was shy of a first and the
Jackets took over on downs.
A long pass was batted down,
and then Kelley was downed
for a four-yard loss on an at-
tempted pass as the game end-
ed.
Bubba Kelley, the fair-haired
boy of four Yellow Jacket vic-
tories, was tagged for destruc-
tion by the fighting Indains.
Besides six pass plays, Kelley
carried the ball thirteen times
from scrimmage, gained a net
22 yards, and lost the ball three
times on fumbles. He threw six
passes had five of them knock-
ed down. But he turned in a
rugged defensive game.
The offensive stars for the
Jackets were Huffman and
Walker. But the big gun of the
game was Sullivan who showed
the Jackets plenty of speed as
well as power. Both Sullivan
and Long gave the Mineolans
trouble on wide sleeps.

But Curly "Knows
What The Score Is!"
Was over at Doc Sherman’s drug
store listening to the WTorld Series
on the radio. Curly Lawson wan-
ders in and says: “How about a
chocolate malted, Doc?”
“Sorry, Curly,” says Doc, “can’t
make you a malted for a while
yet.” “What’s the idea?” Curly
asks. “Well,” says Doc, “most of
the folks want to hear the game
arxl the mixer makes too much
noise.” Curly thinks a moment
and says, “Okay with me, Doc—
I’ll take a chocolate soda!”
This shows how tolerant folks
can be. Doc showed his respect for
how the majority felt; Curly v.as
big enough not to insist on his
malted even though he doesn’t hap-
pen to be fond of baseball.
From where I sit, willingness to
respect the other people’s feelings
is important in a Democracy. If
we’re tolerant of a person’s like
for baseball or a glass of temper-
ate beer, we’ve come a long way on
the right road . . . the road to a
better America, that is!
to end, appeared superior to
the Indian forward wall, but
when the final summary is
run and praise for individual
pefformance is accounted for,
there will emerge one under-
lying reason for the fall of the
Orange. The Indians had the
will to win. They took the
field determined to clip the
Jackets’ wings. 77hey were
alert in pouncing on fumbled
balls, and played a hard defen-
sive and smart offensWe game.
It was the first Grand Sa-
line win over Mineola sin
1941.
