THE HOME PAPER.
With all due modesty we be-
lieve the home paper is the most
important institution in any town.
It is the medium through which
the town speaks to the outside
world and is the means of com-
munication between the people
of the town and vicinity. Long
ago, under inspiration, it was
written, “No Man liveth to hirh-
self,” and this truth was never
more apparent than it is to-day.
No man can retire from activity
and live. He must know what is
going on about him, and the!
world must know what he is do- j
ing. The use of the newspaper!
is the best plan by which this is
carried on.—Oxford(0) News.
The Yoakum oil mill is being
put in the very pink of shape for
the approaching season and
things are going to huip* at the
plant this fall. The Yoakum oil
mill is one of the best industrial
enterprises in Yoakum and should
have the hearty good will and)
support of every citizen of the.
town and surrounding country.
UNBUSINESSLIKE.
Newspapers all over the coun-
try are at last awakening to the
great injustice of the government
in printing envelopes in com-
petition with them and, to make
it even worse, doing it at a loss.
The government has them print-
ed by the million, ships them to
their destination with no expense
to the purchaser for postage and
charges the bare cost of the stock
and making of the envelope—no
extra charge for the printing, no
charge for postage. The postal
deficit would be considerably re-

bills. It is asserted that if such
a clause were added the entire
tariff bill would have to be re-
vised, as it would yield approxi-
mately $70,000,000 annually, and
this sum, with the revenue from
import duties, • would cause the
government to accumulate a sur-

money in circulation. The pro-
