THE REVIVAL.
Notwithstanding the threatening
weather last night, there was a large
audience at the Methodist Church last
night. After some stirring songs the
preacher announced his'subject, “The
Baptism of the Holy Spirit, or Essential
Christianity.” The preacher said:—
Christianitj' is not a more system of
doctrins, or a creed, or conformity to a
certain form, or membership in a
certain church, or the doing of certain
things but is repentance toward God,
and faith in Christ, after which the
Christian religion becomes a definite
experience, God does not leave a man
in any doubt as to the destiny o? his
soul, but if he is not right with God,
the spirit will assure a man of the fact, j
and when he has accepted Christ and
1 God for Christ’s sake has forgiven his
sins, the Holy Spirit will witness to
this greatest of ail facts. A man can
and does know when he is not a Chris-
tian and he also knows when he is a
Christian, and any doubt in your mind
on this great fact, is evidence that you
had better look after your spiritual
condition.
Pardon takes place in the mind of
God, ar.u he sends word of His forgiv-
ness by the Holy Spirit, it would do no
good to forgive a man and not tell him
anything about it, and leave him in
doubt, and God does not do it. This
assui*ance, and experience is for 3Tou
and if you have it not come and seek it.
No thinking, or honest and fair man
will judge a man and condemn him
without a trial, so a fair and honest
man will not condemn Christ or his
religion, with out first giving it a trial,
and we challenge any man to come and
put Christ to ihe test, and if He does
not do what He promises to do then I
will brand Him as a liar, and will burn
the bible and quit. Come and test the
matter, I dare you to do it, I know what
God will do. The church needs this
baptism as a preparation for service,
and if you have not the witness of the
Holy Spirit to the tact of j'our accept-
ance, then it is evident j'ou are not
right with God, for the Spirit doesjnot
testif3' to a lie, and he does testify to
our acceptance with God, “The Spirit
Himself bearetli witness with our
spirits that we are the children of God.”
After the sermon many came forward
and sought a definite experience and re-
consecrated themselves to God. The
subject to night will be “Perfect Love
or Toughness in Religion.”
The promise of a great revival is
growing with each service.
Come early and get a good scat. Rain
or shine we will have services. ,
