Rex Kelly, Kerrville rancher
who was formerly a coach and
Spanish teacher at Yoakum
High School, has written a text
book on simple farm and ranch
Spanish, his friends learned here
this week.
Co-auiiiui hiK die new optauiem
text book along with his broth-
er George Kelly of Laredo, Mr.
Kelly came out with something
really new. it was noted.
Sixty per cent of the Spanish
Rex described it as “border
Spanish,” as it is spoken by
Mexicans who come across the
Rio Grande to work in Texas.
“The Spanish you learn in
Texas schools and colleges isn’t
the same Spanish the average
i aiiuid iui mcr encounters
when dealing with Braceros,”
said Rex Kelly.
The unusual Spanish text pub-
lished by the Kellys has 20
chapters dealing with the
es. In addition, there are 17
chapters featuring both Spanish
and English versions of various
instructions a farmer might
wish to outline for Braceros at
work on his farm. An index in
the book lists the name of most
animals poultry, crops, machin-
ery and tools.
Printed In Austin, the Texa
is being offered as a coimiience
to farmers by Rex Kelly at
Vanderpool, Texas. It’s list price
is $2.95. The book was des-
cribed as rudimentary and prob-
ably not measuring up to ap-
proval in formal but rather use-
less college Spanish courses.
taught in the new text book is I Spanish language as it is spok-
not even in the dictionary. 1 en on Texas and Mexican ranch-
