given in honor of Miss Rose Ann
Turek, bride-elect of Ray Lock*
atedt, by Misses Evelyn Wiede-
mann and Susan Beale in Hous-
ton. Texas.
The hostesses prepared the e-
vent in their home at 1512
Welch, Thursday evening, Feb-'
ruary 18, 1960 at eight o’clock.
White wedding bells were
placed at vantage points in the
living room and also edged the
white cloth which covered the

sugar spun roses, centered the
table.
The bride-elect, attired in a
dress with a round neckline and
a full shirred skirt with black
accessories, opened her lovely
gifts, after which Misses Beale
and Wiedemann served a lunch-
eon consisting of chicken salad
sandwiches, mints, cake and cof-
fee.

MEET WITH MRS. C. S. BROWN
St. Joseph’s Catholic Church
was the scene of an impressive
wedding ceremony, which took
place Monday, February 22nd at
7:30 a.m. At this time Miss Ca-
rolyn Wauson, daughter of Mr.
amt Mrs. C. F. Wauson, Jr. of
Yoakum exchanged marital
vows with Mr. Daniel Pokluda,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Stove Pok-
luda, of Shiner. Rev. Charles
Grahmann officiated at the dou-
ble-ring ceremony.
Arrangements of large white
mums and white gladioli and
greenery, were used to decorate
the altar.
The beautiful organ music
was played by Miss Marjorie
Seitz during the ceremony.
M>ss Patricia Wauson, sister
of the bride, was her maid of
honor, and Miss Marian Poklu-
da, cousin of the groom, was
bridesmaid.
The maid of honor was in rose
beige and the bridesmaid in tur-
quoise blue. The dresses were
ballering a length of lace over
matching taffeta with head
bands and gloves of the
same material. They wore mat-
ching pumps which completed
the ensemble. They carried pink
carnations with shower stream-
ers of pink ribbons.

the groom and the groomsman
was A. J. Rath .They wore pink
boutonnieres.
The bride's brother, Gariy
Wauson, carried the rings on a
beautiful satin, healrt -shaped
pillow, covered with rows of
net ruffles and 1 illy-of-tlie-valley
buds hanging from tiny white
streamers,
Robert Abernathy, cousin of
the bride, and Gene Pokluda,
brother of the groom served as
altar hoys for the occasion.
Entering the church with her
father, the bride was a picture
of loveliness in her gown of
cloudlike imported French lace
and tulle over taffeta. The sheer
net yoke was outlined with a
scalloped Sabrina neckline, em-
bossed witli pearls and sequins.
Long transparent lace sleeves
terminated in petal points with
self-covered buttons. The skirt
was fashioned with a lace pa-
nel down front and hack. The
sides of the skirt were of tulle
sol off hy three lovely rows of
lace.
A crown of pearlized orange
blossoms held her imported fin-
gertip veil of illusion in place.
Her bridal bouquet was a
white orchid surrounded by lily-
of-thc-valloy on a white satin
background and streamers. She
also carried a beautiful white
pearl rosary, a gift from the
groom.
She wore a moonlit cultured
pearl with matching earrings,
which belonged to her aunt, for
"something borrowed.” "Some-
thing Blue” was a blue lace gar-
ter, for 'something old” she plac-
ed a penny in her shoe, and
"something new” was her love-
ly dress.
For her daughter’s marriage,
Mrs. Wauson wore a black and
white silk taffeta dress, black
accessories and a corsage of
white carnations.
The groom’s mother wore a
navy blue and tan dress, with

meeting was conducted, follow-
ed by a social hour.

On February 17, at 4:00 p.m.
at the club house on Coke Street,
Mrs. Henry Matthew called to
order the members of the Yoa-
kum Literary Club. She presided
over a short business session be-
fore introducing Mrs. E. R. El-
kins who gave some interesting

of the book, "Ele; bant I Till.”

Meet,’’ by Kipling described the
love story. Short sketches of
Mr. Alngasamt, Unde. Beth and
George, were very interesting,

was interesting as well as in-
formative by Mrs. O. E. Mann-
ing.
General diseussion followed
after which the meeting ad-
journed to meet on March 9 for
Friendship Day.

home of the hride’s parents.
The bride's table was laid with
a cloth of white net over pink.
The bride and her feminine at-
tendants placed their bouquets
on the table for floral decora-
tion. Miss Patricia Wauson ser-
ved the beautiful three-tiered
eolonnde wedding cake, nestled
in satin and net with pink flow-
ers and sugar hells with pink
clappers and topped with a min-
iature bride and groom. Party
mints and nuts also were on the
table.
Miss Marion Pokluda served
coffee to the guests. Engraved
nankins with Carolvn and Da-
niel on them served as souve-
niers for the wedding party.
Relatives and elose friends at-
tended the wedding.
When leaving for the honey-
moon flip, the bride donned for
travel a smart navy blue suit
dress of silk taffeta with black
accessories and corsage of pink
carnations.
The couple is now at home in
Baytown, where the groom, who
attended St. Ludmila’s Academy
of Shiner, is now omoloved.
Tlie bride is a graduate of St.
Joseph’s High School and is now
attending Lee College in Bay-
town.

nu consisted of tuna salad on
lettuce, potato chips, Ritz crac-
kers, stuffed celery, cheese dip,
fruit cake, mints and coffee.

Club Meets With
Mrs. Carl Ramert
The Regular meeting of the
Progressive Study Club was
held in the homo of Mrs. Carl
Ramert. Assisting in hostess
duties were Mrs. Harry Thiele
and Mrs. N. Y. Plume.
The president, Mrs. Hayden
Deborah, presided during the
session of business. Nominations
were made for officers for the
ensuing year. Those elected
were: Mis. R. F. Gaertner, pre-
sident: Mrs. W. E. Browning,
1st vice president; Mrs. R. J.
Walters, 2nd vice president;
Mrs. R. L. Martin, secretary;
Mrs. Walter Coldowoy, corres-
ponding secretary and Mrs.

A very fine and interesting
program on three books was ca-
pably given by the following
members: Mrs. D. W. Autrey
snoke on the greatest hook, the
Holy Bible; Mrs. W. W. White
chose a classic which was Ma-
dame Bovarv hy Gustave Flau-
bert; and Mrs. R. I„. Martin's
topic was the current movie,
Parrish, by Mildred Savage.
Upon conclusion of the pro-
gram, delicious refreshments
were served which consisted of
individual cherry pies, sand-
wiches and coffer.
Caravan Of Stars
Here Saturday
Last minute touches are being
put to a ton show that will be
staged in Yoakum this Satur-
day night. Word has been re-
ceived from Ricci Ware. MG of
Saturday night’s show, that the
Caravan of Stars is making its
final preparation for a top jxm'-
formance in the St. Joseph’s
gvm. At last report a new talent
was added to the show in the
name of Garland Davis — na-
tionally known singer nnd re-
cording star. lie is expected to
be at his best Saturday night.
Also in their final rehearsal
for the show are the Thunder-
birds, national night club per-
formers. Van Knight, an artist
on the guitar, is all set to en-
tertain you. ZckoGreene and the
Relveas. a group of youngsters,
will certainlv be worth Feeing.

Attend Dsst. A Meet
The Yoakum Chapter of Fu-
ture Homemakers had thirty-
eight members and the chapter
beau attending the Area X, Dis-
trict A meeting at Goliad on
Saturday, February 20, I960.
Miss Augusta Jannett and Mrs.
Simon ITendershot, the spon-
sors, and Mrs. Gilbert Woods
and Mrs. Leroy Manning, the
chapter mothers, accompanied
the group.
Dr. D. E. Moore, superinten-
dent of the Karnes City Public
Schools spoke to the group on
the program theme, "Youth Can
Do”. Dr. Moore said to choose
the things you like to do host.
Then choose the thing you can
do the best. One standard to
judge life’s work is whether it
servos society. Before a student
finishes school he should be
sure that ho has learned enough
in one field to be self-support-
ing.
Seven girls from the Yoakum
Chapter presented a hilarious
skit called “The Old One Room
School.”
Attending this meeting were
529 Future Homemakers from
twenty-nine chapters who learn-
ed the ten keys which would
unlock the book on “Youth Can
Do.” They were leadership, ho-
nor, religion, truth, friendship,
loyalty, careers, foreign rela-
tions, charity and family life.
Yoakum Band Festival Big Event
Here Saturday At High School
The First Yoakum Festival
promises to be a big event here
at Yoakum High School Satur-
day, February 27th. The fes-
tival is the end result of joint
cooperation and sponsorship hy
the Yoakum Kiwanls Club and
particijmtion by tin* local school
district.

director, has prepared a full day
schedule with some fourteen
bands participating in a con-
test which climaxes with tin* a-
warding of six trophies being
given by the Kiwanians On"
trophy will go to the outstand-
ing band in each of 6 classes are
established according to the size
of the school participating.
The event is open to the pub-
lic and for a small admission
charge of 25c for students and
50c for adults, the event is
expected to raise money for the
benefit of the band instrument
fund.
First on the roster in the ap-
pearance of the Yoakum High
School Band which will perform
at 8:30 a. m. At 8:50 a. m. Class
C and CC bands will appear,
namely Yoakum Jr. High, Crain
Jr. High of Victoria; Patti Wel-
der Jr. High of Victoria and
Miss Jo Ann Johnson
Shower Honoree
Miss Jo Ann Johnson, bride-
dect of Patrick Kahnnck, was
named honoree at a miscellane-
ous shower given at the home of
her aunt, Mrs. Thomas Green.
The appointed hours were from
two to four in the afternoon.
Guest were received by Miss
Diane Green, the honoree, Miss
Jo Ann Johnson, the prospective
groom's mother, Mrs. Emil Ka-
hanek and Mrs. A. B. Hermes.
For this lovely courtesy Miss
Johnson wore a peach pink sa-
tin back taffeta frock, with dain-
ty pearl ear bobs and matching
pearl necklace, and a corsage of
pink roses. Red roses were worn
by the other members of the
receiving line.
Miss Betty Holster presided
at the lovely silver and white
bride’s book.
The refreshment table was
laid with a white lace cloth
centered with an arrangement
of pink and white roses. Re-
freshments of cake, punch and
coffee, nuts and mints were ser-
ved. Mrs. Troy Lee Johnson ser-
ved the cake. It was a white
iced sheet confection detailed
with pink wedding bells, tiny
unbrella and love birds and the
wording, “Jo Ann and Pat” in
pink. Mrs. Felix Sandelovic pour-
ed punch or coffee.
Hostesses were: Florence
Green, Ruby Gerdes, Estelle
Whyte, Albina Fuller, Joyce
Johnson, Betty Holster, Mrs.
Pleas J. Holster, Ruth Guitebler,
Agnes Baros, Finis Luerssen,
Fairy Simek, Mrs. Paul Wick
and Mrs. Felix Sandelovic. The
hostesses gift to the honoree
was a lite-woight Sunbeam
electric iron. Many useful and
beautiful shower gifts were re-
ceived hy the bride-to-be.

Air Force’s command band su-
pervisor at Randolph; Weldon
Covington, Municipal director of
Austin, and Tom Williamson,
noted band director now of El
Campo.

Stayton Steen. Thre was a three
minute roll call and the Year-
book committee report, was giv-
en.
Hostesses for the occasion

Merle Davis and Simon Ilender-
shot.
A delicious Seafood luncheon
was enjoyed which included
Shrimp cocktail, deviled crab,
combination salad, spiced beets,
pickles, carrot curls, rolls nnd
crackers, coffee and tea and
cherry ice cream.
