CHRISTIANTY AND WORLD PEACE
Evil always results in treachery, deceit, jealousies, selfish-
ness, conflicts, war. That is the very nature of evil and the
fruit of the tree is true to the nature of the tree.
Good always results in love, helpfulness, cooperation, gener-
ousity, service for others, peace. That is the very nature of
good and the fruit is always true to the nature of the tree.
The Prophecy concerning the coming of the Savior and the angelic
song at His birth both included the message of peace.
"Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build
it; except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
That may be as true today as when the Psalmist wrote it. (127:l
The very existence of evil has been and will always be a mystery
to the mind of man. It was in the Proidence of God to give man
free will so that he could choose his own line of conduct. God
did not make him like a blind force but in the likeness of God,
an intelligent, volitional personality.
God does not desert His people in the conflict between evil and
good, whether it be within the heart or between nations of the
world. When ruthless hands anu hating hearts would destroy human
beings bu the hundreds of thousands, God spread a silent fog
blanket over Dunkirk. The enemy was divinely restrained from
landing on England when that was easily possible. Even after
Pearl Harbor, the enemy was. restrained from taking advantage of
the possibilities then open. From the Rickenbacker incident .
through the rest of the war thousands of individuals can testify
to the protecting hand of God.
It was also in the Providence of God that natural forces used in
the international conflict were given into hands that would use
them to bring about peace. Among them may be mentioed the per-
fected uses of the radar, bomb sights, electrical instanteneaus
aiming of anti air craft guns, and above all else, the atomic
bomb. It would be hard to picture even in the imagination, what
might have been the result of the discovery and use of such a power
by nations bent on destroying all others and ruling the world by
themselves. God gave it to the nations who were ready to use it
for peace and not for the utter destruction of others.
The house that the Germans built upon the foundations of conquer-
ed nations, magnificent enough for the Superman to live in, has
fallen. Except the Lord build the house, they labor but in vain
that build it. The cities that Japan guarded, Pearl Harbor,
Singapore and the cities of China, cities that they would keep and
hold forever, these have slipped from their grasp. Except the Lord
keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
The foundations of world peace are to be found only in the plans
of God for man's righteous living together according to the ways
of God. World military power will never bring peace. It will be
necessary to maintain order. No signed treaties, not even the
charter of the United Nations, will gurantee peace. We have seen
how much pledged word means to some nations. No accumulations of
wealth nor the sharing of wealth will gurantee peace.
Only honor, integrity, good will and the friendly sympathetic
understanding heart, all of which come from the influence of the
Spirit of God in the human heart will make peace possible. Before
a nation can be Christian, the people within it much be Christian.
Each one of us can be a Christian unit in what we will help to
make a Christian world. Our failing to live the Christian atti-
tude and life, will, to that extent, keep the nation from being
Christian.
As Christians, we need to be more generous with our money, more
outreaching in our missionary desires and more consecrated in our
own Christian living to help make international peace possible.
Except the Lord build the house, they labor invain that build it;
except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but invain.

V-J DAY
We were all grateful to God for V-J Day. In Brady we held a
Union Thanksgiving Service in the Christian Church. KNEL broad-
casted the program. Hr. Wilkerson vided loudspeaker for base-
ment of the church which was well ca. Because of vacations, it
fell to the lot of the Presbyterian minister to complete final
details and p reside.
We are glad for the cessation of the war which means few more
lives will be lost, mostly by accident, and that many of the men
will be coming home. For civilians, it means the relaxation of
many war-time restrictions as gasolene, blue points for canned
goods, and the production of many more necessities. Dozens and
dozens of regulations have been removed or relaxed.
We hope all of you will keep in perfect health and that all may
return as soon as possible.
