There may have been a few changes of address and location
on very recent days but these are the locations given by members of
families here. We hope that many of you will be able to put USA
after your addresses before too long.
VE Day at Home
We held a VE Day service in the Church at 8:30 P.M. Tuesday,
May 8, the official VE Day here. Around thirty were present and
all were very grateful to God for the cessation of fighting in
Europe. Al prayed in their hearts for the end of the war also in
the Pacific. After singing America and America the Beautiful, the
Pastor gave a short talk which was followed by directed pyaring.
This was followed by all praying for each one of you as your names
were read by the Pastor with intervals fr praying between the names
After the prayers for each one of you, we sang a hymn which the
Pastor said was dedicated to the boys. It was, Home, Sweet Home.
The meeting closed pith singing Lead On 0 King Eternal and the
benediction. As usual, we stayed around and visited until after
ten o'clock.
Wayne Hurd has been promoted to First Lieutenant.
For Easter, Cpl. Clarence Wilkerson wired a dozen red roses
to his mother and daughter.
McColloch County oversubscribed Red Cross quota by $5,478.00.
Saturday, May 26 is Poppy Day. April 27th, straw hat day.
Over 1,200 PWs for disobedience, were on bread and water for
more than a week. They are put to work gardening to raise their
own food in part.
The Curtis Field at Brady will soon be closed along with nine
other privately owned contract schools.
Fifty one car loads of stock were shipped from Brady last week.
Brady Pres. Church will give a kid barbeque to Presbyterian
Cadets in city park on Wednesday, May 16.
Junior-Senior Banquet, Rochelle, April 27th.
25 cut in sugar rations, shoe stmp validation deferred two
months, ration points for meats raised,and some ten pounds drop in
canning sugar.
Several men and boys have been on Brady Creek overnight fish-
ing recently. The anticipation ws far ahead of the realization.
Wheat and oats are nearly ready for combines which have been
put in shape and drip grease at every joint.
This week is IMusic Week. Diane and Jerodine Johansen are in
recitals in Brady High School.
We are glad that we have another new church_ member, Billy Ray
Lewis who joined May 6 and will be baptized Sunday, Iay 13.
Bobby and eight other boys spent a night and a day fishing on
Brady Creek. The .rgest one got away. They got quite a few smaller
ones and plenty of red bugs.
Ruth Wilson made very attractive pla ce cards for Junior-Sen-
ion banquet, animals in cages, with each person's name written on
the cage. Theme "A Circus".
Almost every family has a flock of baby chickens so thete will
be fried chickens galore later.
Garland Yell was a week end visitor with his parents in
Teague. Esther and Mary Nell also went home over the week end.
Some school graduates are: Tommy Briscoem Lohn May 18; Wanda
Sue Hodges, Los Angeles, Calif..Alice and girls went to California
about two years ago. Alice teaches, the girls go to different schools
They are giving schools in California a taste of Texas.
It seems that L.B. Severson will soon be entering the army as
his 18th birthday is April 23. He fed a calf that won several
ribbons in fairs. He has been helping his father on the farm.
