Heavenly Branch hosting free concert
Heavenly Branch Farm, the Dublin community garden,
will present “Hymns for the Garden,” a free gospel concert
featuring Whole Heart Quartet at Rocky Point Christian Life
Center from 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. on Nov. 17.
Rocky Point is located on Hwy 67 in Stephenville, a
quarter-mile from Hard 8.
The Whole Heart Quartet was formed in 1999 at Walnut
Ridge Baptist Church in Mansfield, Texas when the church
was preparing for an Easter production and needed a male
quartet in one scene. Three of the four original members
are still with the group. Dee Vaughn brings audiences to
their feet with his powerful tenor voice and passionate
delivery.
Phil Sharp sings the lead part with a clear, dynamic,
genuinely worshipful approach. Virgle Fredrick sings bass
and anchors the group with his keen ear and years of
experience in the Gospel music industry. Phil Spencer
dazzles audiences with skills at the piano, as well as with
his rich baritone/lead voice.
Whether performing at a public middle school, a Music
Conservatory, a Linguistics Institute, or in traditional
churches, every audience has been receptive to their songs,
seemingly eager to learn more about the message of their
music.

Lions seeking name

Dublin Lions Club is
seeking a catchy name for
its annual run held the

a 10K, 5K and fun run of
about IK.
It’s held each year in
conjunction with the annual

in Dublin Dollars.
Entries should be sent to

Wheat future uncertain
Texas wheat growers may
have some hard decisions
to make this winter because
of market and weather
uncertainties, according to
a Texas A&M AgriLife
Extension Service marketing
expert.
Much of the uncertainty
in prices stems from the
drought, Waller said. Most
of the state’s wheat got a
boost from late-summer,
early fall rains, with much
of the crop emerged, and
some already grazeable,
said Dr. Mark Waller,
AgriLife Extension
economist in grain
marketing and policy,
College Station.
“From a traditional
standpoint, grain prices are
high,” he said. “We’ve been
trading in a kind of
sideways pattern since
June, if you look at future
market prices. A lot of that
is because grain supplies
are tight, and not only
wheat supplies. If you look
at what happened with the
drought in the Midwest,
we’re likely to see pressure
for more wheat to go
toward feeding because
there is a shorter corn
crop.”
And there’s continued
uncertainty when it comes
to winter weather. As
recently as late August,
forecasters, including those
at the National Oceanic
Atmospheric
Administration’s Climate
Prediction Center, were
expecting a stronger-than-
average El Nino to develop
in the tropical Pacific. A
strong El Nino would have
increased the chances for a
wetter than average winter,
which is exactly what the
crop needs, Waller said.
Most experts agree, he
said, that because soil-
moisture levels were
severely depleted during
the 2011 drought, this
year’s crop will need
greater-that-average
rainfall to show an average
performance.

current Texas drought and
wildfire alerts can be found

Time for the annual DAC
Christmas Store is coming
fast. The store will be held
November 29, 30, Dec. 1
and the following weekend,
Dec. 6, 7 & 8. The store
will open at 8 a.m. each
day.
There will be new and
gently used Christmas
items, small items suitable
for gifts and lots of baked
goodies made by the great
cooks of Desdemona.
Many of the baked items
will be suitable for freezing
for the holidays. We
always have a great time at
the Christmas Store - it’s
fun to visit with friends
and meet new folks.
It is almost time to elect
new officers for the board
of directors of the DAC.
Please consider
volunteering to have your
name put on the ballot.
See you in Desdemona!
