VFW LADIES PROVIDE HOMEMADE COOKIES - The Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans
of Foreign Wars, Cleveland Memorial Post 1839, worked on a special project spearheaded by
Auxiliary Senior Vice President Bonnie Walker. On July 13th, 280 dozen homemade cookies
were packed and sent to the men and women serving on the USS Kearsarge, operating in the
Adriatic Sea. Six days later, an e-mail thank you letter was received from the ship. The work party
included from left to right, Francis Caloway, Mary Church, Auxiliary President, Louise Reed,
Bonnie Walker, Lou Ann Lane and Post Commander, Budd Todd.

CLEVELAND’S VFW LADIES AUXILIARY PARTICIPATES IN PROGRAMS - The La-
dies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Cleveland Memorial Post 1839, has had a very
busy month during July, participating in VFW State and National programs. On July 15th, sisters
Ruby Landis and Irene Carter, with Post Commander Budd Todd narrating, presented a historical
program about the evolution of the Flag to the Cleveland Pilot Club. The presentation tells about
how the parts of “Old Glory” were chosen in the beginning and how the flag has changed through
the years. As the program progresses, the date that each state came into the Union is given. Addi-
tionally, information about the great men who wrote the Declaration of Independence and our
Constitution is included. Persons in the picture are, from left to right, Irene Carter, Ruby Landis,
Linda Todd, Post Commander Budd Todd, Auxiliary President Louis Reed, Bonnie Walker and
Polly Hunter.
