that post in Ottawa, Ontario,
in 1951 on the death of the
incumbent. She won addi-
tional terms in 1952 and

They have recently been busy learning about tools, making gifts for others, learn-
ing about the United States Flag respect and decorum, and earning badges for col
lecting useful items for Goodwill.

Michael Winfrey received his Bear Badge from Den Mother
Donna Dunaway at the Pack 427 meeting Jan. 26 held at
Kingswood United Methodist Church. Michael is a Cub Scout,
a member of Den 1, Pack 427, and a student at Norwood
Elementary, lie is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Winfrey.
Cub scouts
active with
many activities
Since their organization in
September, cub scouts of
Dens 3 and 1, Pack 427, all
Norwood Elementary stu-
dents, have been very busy
learning the basics of cub
scouting as w'ell as working
on new challenging activi-
ties.
Den 3 cub scouts include
Tracy Beck, Grady Pace,
Jay Isom, Michael Crocker,
Jim Bob Forman, Will Mc-
( omas. David Dunaway, and
Greg Ash. Den leader is Ro-
ger Isom, and the group
meets weekly on Mondays at
7:30 p m.
Cub Master over the two
dens is Lewis Ash. Both dens
join together for Pack meet-
ings on the third Thursday erf
each month. Specifically the
boys have been studying
about tools and safe usage of
them They are currently
working on knot-tying at den
meetings. Different types of
field trips are in the planning
stages for the boys after the
weather turns a bit warmer.
Micheal Winfrey, Cliff
Chumley, and Kevin Kuntz
of Den 1 have also been
active under the direction of
Den Mother Donna Duna-
way Michael and Kevin re-
cently earned their1 bear bad
ges. All three boys received
"Genius Kits” at a recent
den meeting. The exact
same number of different
types of household items
were placed in paper sacks,
and scouts were instructed to
use glue only to construct
some type of art object or
project from the items pro-
vided in the “kit.” Michael
was first place winner, Cliff,
second: and Kevin placed
third in the contest.
February is sure to be a
busy month for area Boy
Scouts of all ages. Several
activities are planned for the
month, including Scout Sun-
day on Feb. 5. All Boy Scouts
are encouraged to wear their
uniforms to church on Scout
Sunday
Norwood's Boy Scout
Roundup, the mid-year
membership drive, is sched-
uled for Feb. 9 from 7:30 to 9
p m in the Norwood Cafe-
torium. All boys from the
Norwood School District ire
eligible for registration at

and parents are encouraged
to attend the Feb. 9 meeting.
Later in the month on Feb.
23, the Blue and Gold Ban-
quet will be held. All details
about the banquet are not
available yet, but informa-
tion about the special scout-
ing event will be coming
soon. Each den of cub scouts
will be making a centerpiece
for the banquet.
