Miller Safety Engineer Bill
Doyle said, "Miller is proud to be
associated with the Tarrant County
Firefighters and the emergency
services community and is honored
to host an opportunity for these
professionals to kick back and
enjoy themselves."
Singleton has been with the
Burleson Volunteer Fire Depart-
ment the longest, with six years un-
der his belt. Davis has been a
fireman for five years, Wofford for
three years, and Baker for almost
two years.
Proceeds will benefit the Tar-
rant County Firefighters' Associa-
tion Education Fund. A Crowd of
900 plus spectators watched the fun
under a sweltering sun.
A hose-off tests the hose-
handling skills of a four-person
team. A beer keg suspended on a
cable 20 feet above the ground is
the target, and each team attempts
to force the keg to their opponents'
end of the cable with their hose
stream. Each battle lasts three
minutes, and the winners are deter-
mine'! through a process of double
elimination.
The event has grown from 18
teams in 1982 to this year's 64,
representing 33 cities from six
The air was filled with good
natured ribbing and jokes, but the
practice was for a deadly serious
job. The competition was as fierce
as their-dedication to saving lives.
It was the Eighth Annual Fire-
fighters' Hose-Off hosted by Miller
Brewing Company, 7001 South
Freeway in Fort Worth.
Burleson's team of four—team
captain, Joe Davis, and members
Randy Baker, Stacy Singleton, and
Michael Wofford—placed fifth out

different counties. Teams from
smaller communities like Crowley,
Burleson, Briaroaks, Rendon, Rio
Vista, Cleburne, Kennedale, and
Edgecliff, all volunteer departments
took on the "paid boys" from the
likes of Fort Worth, Dallas, and
Arlington, and held their own!
Crowley took two teams.
The participants are both paid
and volunteer firefighters, emer-
gency medical technicians, para-
medics and hazardous material
technicians, both male and female,
whom the public relies on in
emergency situations.
When the water spray setded,
Keller took home the 1st place
trophy and a check for $175;
"Them thar's fightin
words!"
Crowley ambulance crews answered a call for a gun shot victim last
Sunday afternoon and transported 30-year old Chuck Bell to Huguley
Hospital emergency room where he was treated and released. According to
officers at the scene and a Johnson County Sheriffs Department report,
Charles Lawrence 'Pete' Bell, age 55, was arrested for aggravated assault
after he shot his son with a shotgun, stemming from an argument over the
sign pictured above. Officers related that the younger Bell had become
angry with his father after he placed the sign in front of his home, located
just off C.R. 920 and C.R. 1902. The younger Bell alledgedly shot the
sign, and his father then shot at Bell. Johnson County Sheriffs
Department is still investigating the incident.
