The Burleson High School Band’s trip to Ireland
was a grand event...and the Burleson Star’s “Welcome
Home” special section will be just as grand. The sec-
tion will have highlights of the band’s trip including
photos and information on the St. Patrick’s Day
Parade in Dublin.
By advertising in this special
section, local merchants can show
their appreciation for the band’s
fine job of representing Burleson
abroad.

It's oul with (he old and in witli
the new (kind of) for Burleson's
senior citizens' passenger van.
The just-like-new set of wheels
will be on the streets in about
30 days.
The city's senior citizens have
been vanless since the old blue
Dodge van was totaled in an acci-
dent last year. But the S720 of in-
surance money recovered and a
bit of bargain shopping pro-
duced a much better vehicle
The city purchased a 1978
Dodge van from the Texas
government surplus property
facility in Fort Worth and city
workers began the process ol
converting the former Army
truck into a suitable passenger
van
City mechanic Joda Buckley
said the coversion included re-
painting the exterior, body work,
insulating and paneling the in-
terior, carpeting the floor and
ceiling, installing an air con-
ditioner, and upholstering the
seats. Once painted Army green,
the van is now immaculate white
and spoils the official City ol
Burleson logo.
“These workers have saved the
city a lot of money,'' Parks Dircc-
tor Doug Evans added.
Equipment Service Superin-
tendent Gene Key said the pro-
ject should be completed in time
for his April 25 birthday.
“Em going to be a
citizen on my birthday and Em
going to be the first senior citizen
to ride in this van!” he joked.
Also donating their expertise to
the project were city employees
Larrv Fetterolf and Daniel
Walker
When completed, the almost-
new van will hold seven passen-
gers and a driver and will have
seatbelts for all.
