1955*taking the position of pas-
tor for the Dallas First Seventh-
day Ajventist Church. He was
soon elected president of the
church’s Texas Conference in
1957. and went on to become
Southwestern Lnion president in
1966.
To capture the little experiences
which can add up to one life that
makes the difference,” you can
look at several white medical
buildings on the South Freeway
This is one of the chief accom-
plishments in the life, of Ben
Leach
In the role of trustee over the
past two decades Leach has
helped in the development and
establishment of Huguley. Mem-
orial Hospital.
In 1967, Dr Herbert Tavlor
Huguley a Dallas dentist, kft a
majority of his estate to the
Seventh-day' Adventist denomina-
tion to build a hospital in honor
of his parents In 1972 when Fort
Worth’s business and civic lead-
ers heard that the Hugulev funds
were designated to build % hospi-
tal in north central Texas they
approached the Adventists and
proposed that the hospital be
buih m Fort Worth
Ben Leach was instrumental in
guiding the church to its final
decision to locate the hospital
north of Burleson rather than in
a suburb of Dallas
In our opinion, no one has
equalled the accomplishments ;n
the institutional area that Ben
Leach has made," says Huguley
Hospital president John D
Koobs "His contribution to the
community during his adminis-
tration will be fell for decades in
the future "
Some of Leach s most remark-
able accomplishments hate oc-
cured in the pasi 12 years in
connection with health care
Besides helping to establish
Huguley Hospital and guiding n
through the "growing pains'
faced by all new hospitals Leach
was instrumental in negotiating a
merger wuh the Adventisi hos-
pitals of the southern and
southwest stales—a move result-
ing in the .Adventist Health
Svsiem Sunbelt At the time of us
creation it was the largest protes-
tant multi-hospital system in
the L’.S
Today, AHS/Sunbdt is pan of
AHS/L'S, the largest protestant
non-profit multi-hospital system
in the country
As former Chairman of the
Board of Huguley Memorial
Hospital, Leach's dedication tcT
the hospital's efforts in philan-
thropy is commendable Because
of his accomplishments in health
care and in his church’s ministry
upon retirement, his life can truiv
be described as one that made
the difference.”
