The BYA benefit softball tourna-
ment, held last Saturday at Bartlett
Park, brought in approximately
$1325 for Delbert Blissett’s medi-
cal expenses. Additional donations
brought the total monies to $1450,
according to publicity chairman
Bonnie Erickson.
The four-round, nine-team tour-
nament, which began at 6:30 p.m.
and ended shortly after midnight,
was won by Team 6, composed in
part of Mark Zimmer, Jerri
McCallum, Jan Parks, Thresa Law-
son, Sherry Blanks, Vance Lawson
and Ann Hinkley.
A special "Umpire Award” went
to Jerry Blanks, who came to the
tournament in a clown costume.
Erickson said she was very
pleased at the turnout for the
event, as well as the amount of
money raised. “Delbert saw just
how many people love him,”
she remarked.
Blissett, who has been hos-
pitalized with a serious illness in
recent weeks, was on hand for
much of the tournament, includ-
ing the final game.

Special rules for the slow-pitch
tournament were the following:
each batter came to the plate with
a 3-2 count; players were allowed
to substitute for others or switch
previously assigned positions by
paying a small fee; "mulligans”
could be purchased by players and
used to “buy” extra strikes or can-
cel a put-out on a hit ball.
Individual trophies were awar-
ded to each member of the win-
ning team. TVophies were donated
by Jim Davis.
Ben-Gay for sore muscles was
donated by Wal-Mart, Safeway and
Bransom’s.
