HOLLYWOOD - As he
walked out of the Hollywood
premiere of Columbia’s “The
Blue Lagoon” in which he
stars, 19-yw-old Chris At-
kins spied luscious Amy Ir-
ving, Steve Spielberg's ex-
lady, and made his play.
“Hello, Amy.”
“Do we know each other?"
Irving snapped frostily.
“We do now,” said the una-
bashed Chris.
Not wishing to pursue the
acquaintance, Irving moved
away, but later at the post-
premiere party she apolo-
gised.
Tm so sorry. I didn’t
know who you were.”
{ With that confession, Amy
spoke for the world, because,
to date, young Atkins is a to-
ally unknown element in
show business, a mystery to

all except to those who’ve
seen his first picture, “The
Blue Lagoon.”
For prior to its produc-
tion, he’d only acted in a
school play, though he had
done some modeling.
“I feel sq guilty," Chris
said at breakfast the day
after the premiere.
“There are a lot of people
out there who have been
studying acting for a long
time, waiting for a chance
like this. But a yo-yo like me
was chosen.
“Before I got the part in
the picture, I was in Rye,
N.Y., teaching sailing to chil-
dren for minimum wage.’’
“The Blue Lagoon,” based
on a 1908 novel by Henry
DeVere Stacpoole, stars At-
kins and Brooke Shields as
youngsters cast up on an un-
civilized, tropical island
where they survive, mature
and eventually fall in love.
