An accident involving a city vehicle
Friday required the transfer of one
driver to Carswell Air Force Base
Hospital with incapacitating injuries
Attie Paul McFarland, 40 of
Joshua, was taken to Carswell by
Daniel's Ambulance after the pickup
he was driving crashed into the rear
of a City of Burleson dump truck,
according to the official report. The
accident, on SW Wilshire at Burleson
Plaza Shopping Center occurred ap-
proximately 8 p.m. Jan. 25.
Two city employees were taking
sand from the city truck to cover an
“unknown-type petroleum spill” and
had their vehicle parked in the exit
lane near the intersection of Wilshire
and Summercrest. City employees
John Patrick Delozier and Odell
Woodard, both of Burleson, told po-
lice that the emergency flashers of
the truck were operating at the time
of the accident.
The men saw the pickup approach-
ing their vehicle at a “high rate of
speed” and ran from the truck when
they believed the pickup would be
unable to stop. The picktp then slam-
med into the back of the dump truck,
pushing both vehicles 13 feet from the
point of impact Officer Donald
Britt’s accident report states that
approximately 33 feet of skidmarks
were measured from the McFarland
vehicle. - ,
McFarland was conscious when
Britt reached him and told the officer
he (McFarland) was injured. The
man requested transfer to Carswell
when Daniel’s Paramedic Jerry
Holdridge and EMT Kathy Cavender
arrived to administer first aid.
According to the public affairs
office of Carswell Air Force Base
Hospital, McFarland was treated in
their emergency room and released
