Fears love living in Burleson
CONTINUED FROM PAGE IB
Burleson. Even though mv hus-
band has to commute to Dallas,
we love living here. It has grown
a lot in the past 15 years, but it is
still a nice place to live and it
really never changes."
MARGARETS HUSBAND Bob
is a sales manager for the Don
Young Co. in Dallas, which
manufactures steel and decora-
tive doors and stained glass win-
dows.
They have an 8-vear-old daugh-
ter Nicole who is in the third
grade at Jack Taylor Elementary
School; a son and daughter-in-
law, Robert and Pam Fear; two
grandsons, Robert, 3, and Shawn,
almost 15 months, who also
reside in Burleson.
The Fear home was filled with
the aromas of that labulous
Greek cuisine, the afternoon
Margaret consented to an inter-
view. The home itself is an un-
ending conversation piece from
the moment you enter the foyer
and step down into the living
room. The first conversation
might be about the mid-1920s
icebox that has been convened
from its original use into a
cabinet for phonograph records
and candles.
"Yes," Margaret smiled, “it is
the kind you used to have to put a
card in the window to tell the ice-
man how many pounds vou wan-
ted that day. It belonged to my
mother."
"When we got it, it was splin-
tered. I used all kinds of things to
gel the rust and corrosion off-
everything from toothpicks to
tooth brushes. I improvised some
of the tools of the trade to meet
the need to remove the corrosion
from the cracks and cartings.
"It was a light oak, but had
been painted over several times
in several different colors. We
removed all that and stained it a
dark oak. W'e cleaned, shined and
put the original hardware back
on it.”
Another conversation piece is
the courhouse clock that came
from Margaret's home state,
Colorado. The 2 '/2-feet in dia-
meter clock that hangs above the
fireplace mantle, tits the decor of
the cathedral-ceilingcd living
room. In the family den, there is
an old-fashioned cupboard that
came from her mother's kitchen
and was once painted white. It
has been restored to a dark oak,
lined with ctushed velvet, and
lighted to exhibit collectibles.
An old kitchen table, with us
legs shortened to 2-feet above the
brass claw feet resting on large
glass balls that have now turned
to a lavender color, serves as a
coffee table
"I like to make things func-
tional Not just something to sit

The Fears' latest venture into
the world ot restoring beautiful
things to a usage is an RCA Vic-
trola "talking machine.” It also
belonged to Margaret's mother
and is over 100 years old. Its
beautiful mohogany finish is just
now beginning to appear under
Bob and Margaret's hands. It
takes little imagination to believe
the "wind-up" machine will soon
be pouring forth strains ot Rudy
Valle's "Mv Time Is Your Time."
IT IS DIFFICULT for Bob and
Margaret to understand how peo-
ple can abandon the old the
bcauntul tor plastic and veneer.
While most ot the treasures in
Bob and Margaret's home arc in-
herited. they do enjoy going to
flea markets and garage sales.

see underneath." sfte says. "My

I refinish it. Bob and I have
always loved working together-
working with our hands. We have
the same sense of accomplish-
ment when we are through."
Bob has a new hobbv of his
own, resin work. “You take off--
post cards, photos, or favorite
verses; mount them on a beauti-
lul piece ot wood; then layer with
resin that simply brings out the
colors. It's a wonderful way to
preserve old photos," he said
The family are members ol St
Ann Catholic Church, but most of
Margaret's activities nowadays
are in her home.
She explains, "I am incognito
