Letter to the editor
City's suit 'appalling'
It is appalling that the city at-
torney for Burleson, J,L Phinney,
has coerced the citv council to go
along with his plan to some
sort of lawsuit against the newly
incorporated town of Cross
Timber.
This appears to be a nasty form
of harassment toward the town,
probably brought on by a person,
or persons, because the area of
Cross Timber becoming a town
was not in their plans. Mr. Phin-
ney may be letting his position as
city attorney be used.
It is possible that J.L Phinney
is trying to muster up some sort
of status, or public recognition
for himself in order to boost his
appeal toward voters next year,
since he is in the running for
judge of the 249th District Court
in Johnson County.
The newly incorporated area of
Cross Timber was of no special
interest to Burleson; until now.
The area was not, and is not, in
Burleson’s (land grab) E.T.J.
zone acquired by strip annexa-
tion that Burleson was caught up
in a few years ago.
The election to incorporate was
conducted in an extremely ac-
curate and fair manner, meeting
all legal requirements. The vote
passed by an astounding 81%
majority.
I think Mr. Phinney would be
wise to back off and leave well
enough alone before things gel
out of hand. I would hope the city
fathers could find something
more productive to occupy his
time. This is not Wooded Hills
that was berated by Burleson
in 1987.
