Parks speaks on blended families
Bed I old Meadows Resource
Corner of Arlington will present
Charles Parks in a complimen-
taiv seminar on Tuesday, Dec. 12,
Irom 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the
Resource Center, 1414 Randol
Mill Road, Suite 120 in Arlington.
Through the seminar titled,
“Managing Blended Families,"
Parks will help parents learn how
to deal with the difficulties step-
families encounter and discuss
solutions to problems to create a
family that lives in cooperation.
Parks said, “A family is like a
ship at sea. Everyone must
work together.”
Working together as a family
for Parks means holding weekly
family meetings, eating meals
together, having children con-
tribute to the household by doing
unpaid tasks and parents being
boss.
Parks believes responsibility
should be instilled in children at
a young age. "Our job as parents
is to he curious, and interested in
our kids, not solve their problems.
We must learn to sit on our
hands and ask our children what
they're
blem
re going to do about the pro-
ne said.
Parks said, "What I see as the
greatest gap in our children's
lives today is the absence of adult
relatives and friends to instill
their values and guide our
children. With lamilies spread
out across the United States, kids
ollen grow up without much
guidance.”
Parks is a family interventionist
wot king in a psychiatric practice.
He has worked extensively in
Tarrant County and the Mid-
Cities area with lamilies who are
dealing with unacceptable adok-s-
cenl behavior. He has appeared
on television and radio as a
parent advocate.
The Bedford Meadows Resource
Center of Arlington is affiliated
with Bedford Meadows Hospital,
a lull-service 80-bed psychiatric
hospital located in the Mid-Cities.
Specializing in mental health
care, Bedford Meadows provides
comprehensive programs for
children, adolescents and adults.
