Haltom sneaks by Elks
out of the game, forcing the Elks to
work their inside game without his
presence thoughout most of the final
period.
The Elk who have straggled
offensively on occassion, had one of
their better nights—hitting 59 per-
cent of their shots from the Held and
48 percent of their free throws.
Ayars, for the fifth time this
season, lead the team in sewing with
21 points. DeFrancis pumped in 15
while Beagle and Fernando Paz
added ten each.
The Burleson Elks learned the
value of the three point shot Tuesday
when Haltom hit five straight in the
final period of action to come from
bcind and swat the Elks 73-68.
Behind solid performances by
Alan Ayars, 21 points and nine re-
bounds, Chris DeFrancis, 15 points
and two steals, and Zach Beagle with
10 points, the Elks took command of
the game early.
Burleson leadby four at the half,
extended the lead to five at the end of
the third period and looked like they
were going to put the game away.
But, as is often the case in bas-
ketball, two things Jiappened to
change the direction of the game.
First, Buffs guard Kevin
Kirkpatrict got hot, hitting five con-
secutive three pointers—-three of
those coming in the final quarter of
action.
Second, Elk post Beagle fouled

Trinity, who features a strong
offensive attack, only score 12 points
in the first period but broke loose in
each of the other three en route to a
77-31 win.
The Lady Elks managed to score
eight points in each of the first two
periods and nine in the third but were
held to only four in the final stanza.
For thesecond time this season,
Cheryl Haas lead Burleson in scoring
with 16 points.
Lana Kennedy added six for the
Lady Elks while Jennifer Petre fin-
ished the night with four, Michelle
Addy three, and Stacy Blanchette
two.
Addy and Kennedy lead the
team in rebounding with seven each
while Haas lead in steals with two.

I am vety envious of these
Coaches, because they have stuck
with and improved a poor pro-
gram when they took over. Very
few people could remain optimis-
tic about winning after so many
years of losing.
Instead of criticizing the
coaches try supporting the out-
worked & under paid profes-
sionals.
Maybe better yet, it Dennis &
Doris are so knowledgeable why
It is rather obvious that neither

High School football.
1 do not live in the Burleson
1SD but I happen to have read
this ridiculous article criticizing
Coaches. Being 5A on the low
end is problem enough, but being
stuck in a district with schools
from much larger enrollments
makes competing in any sport
very hazardous.
1 have seen Burleson trying to
participate for the same six years
that the two experts mentioned
above have watched.
Burleson has not had the
athletes to participate in those six
years. The Coaching staff has got-
