Rep. Bruce Gibsun, D-Godley,
has been awarded an "A” for his
legislative efforts during the 1989
regular session, Texans for Fi-
nancial Responsibility announ:
ced today.
The 5,000-member grassroots
coalition issued a report card on
each legislator based on his or
her performance on efficiency
and financial responsibility in
state government. Gibson is one
of only 34 members of the Texas
House of Representatives who
received the highest possible
grade from the statewide group,
according to Lynn Oates, chair-
man of the coalition.
‘Texas can remain an oppor-
tunity state only if there is more
efficiency in government,” stated
Oates, who is financial analyst
in Decatur.
"Austin needs more legislators
like Rep. Gibson to get an effi-
cient Texas,” he added.
Referring to his past service on
the Sunset Advisory Commission
and current chairmanship of the
House Committee on Govern-
ment Organization, Gibson stated
that his legislative efforts are con-
sistent with the coalition's goal to
stop waste and fraud and to pro-
vide an efficient and responsible
stale budget. Both the commis-
sion and the House standing
committee scrutinize the ef-
ficiency and operations of dozens
of state agencies which undergo
periodic sunset review.
Gibson, who expressed ap-
preciation for this honor, pledged
to continue his efforts to provide
Texans with efficiency and ac-
countability in state govern-
ment.
