The old shell game: Biolo-
gist James Lyster of the
Institute of Obstetrics and
Gynecology at London’s
Hammersmith Hospital says
a woman’s chances of bear-
ing a son are 10 percent bet-
ter if her mate eats six
ounces of cooked shellfish a
day and then the couple abs-
tains from sex for 40 days.
Lyster recommends oysters,
although other shellfish are
just as good. They all con-
tain a non-poisonous form of
arsenic, which is the key fac-
tor in creating a son. So if
you want a daughter, do you
eat ribs?
Pot luck: A gent stormed
into a room at a motor inn
just as Philadelphia, Pa.,
narcotics officers were
about to carry off 180
pounds of marijuana found
during a raid. The officers
asked what he wanted. He
said he didn’t like the quality
of the pot he had purchased.
The police confiscated the
pot and arrested the fellow,
who was charged with pos-
session of four ounces of
marijuana. No satisfaction
guaranteed.
Monkeying around: Two
baboons in Cape Town,
South Africa, grabbed back-
packs from a group of school
children, emptied the con-
tents on the ground and stole
the food. The animals fled
with the food and disap-
peared. Three weeks before,
six baboons surprised a par-
ty of picnickers and stole
beer, wine and cigarettes in
the same area. The animals
are fighting back.
Who needs alarms? A con-
verted mobile home that
served as a branch bank in
Mandeville, La., was robbed
recently of $165,000
According to police, the
bank had no burglar alarms
on its doors or windows. As a
matter of fact, the windows
were often left open. One
police officer said anyone
could break into the bank by
using a tiny penknife — not
to pick the lock, but to cut
through the wall of the trail-
er. That’s a cutting remark!
Test tube: Dennis Cuddy,
Raleigh, N.C., thinks he has
come up with a better tooth-
paste tube. His U S. Patent-
ed tube has an elliptical top
which allows the user to
squeeze the last bit of tooth-
paste from the tube. Accord-
ing to Cuddy, the toothpaste
comes out in thin flat strips
that fit a brush perfectly.
For those who lose the cap,
Cuddy has designed a snap-
on-cap. Waste not, want not.
