A Visit From
Marley's Ghost
Ebenezer Scrooge, played by Rex Russell, expressed fear and trepidation when
approached by his ghostly visitor. Played by Duane Boyd, Marley's ghost was clad
in heavy chains at recent play rehearsals of the First Baptist Church drama
department. The Dickens play, “A Christmas Carol,” will be presented at the
church at 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Photo by Dottie Wilton
FBC to present drama
Charles Dickens’ 1843 clas-
sic about Ebenezer Scrooge
has been told and retold
countless times. Burleson
will have an opportunity to
see this delightful story re-
enacted once again. “A
Christmas Carol,” directed
by Bob Johns, will be pre-
sented by First Baptist
Church this Saturday and
Sunday, Dec. 10-11. The time
is 7 p.m. for these two free
performances.
This one-act production
features Rex Russell as
Ebenezer Scrooge; Mike Mc-
Ray, Bob Cratchit; Sandy
Wilson, Mrs. Cratchit;
Duane Boyd, Marley’s
ghost; and Sharon Foster,
Tiny Tim.
Other members of the 18
member cast include Jeff
Innmon, Melodi Russell,
Robby Smith, Tracy Wal-
lace, Matthew Hewett, Mi-
chelle Foster, John Bonham,
John Spencer, Deanna Teaff,
Rick Hadley, Susan Klaeren,
Paige Parker, and Jennifer
Myers.
“A CHRISTMAS CAROL”
is the story of a man who
hated Christmas and of a
single night that transform-
ed that hate into love. As
Scrooge himself puts it, “I
am a different man. I have
learned a great lesson. I
have learned that Christmas
is not a humbug. But it is a
gift—a gift from God—a gift
that is meant to be given
away. And from this time on,
I intend to give it away, not
only on Christmas, but
every day of every year.”
Scrooge is still a household
word 140 years later, and his
transformation serves as a
true, inspiration to us as to
the true meaning of Christ-
mas. Come catch the spirit
of Christmas this weekend at
First Baptist Church, 317 W.
Ellison. For more informa-
tion call 295-2221.
Mrs. Sherrie Lynn Davis
and Charles Randal Morris
exchanged wedding vows at
Christ Church in Wedgwood
at 2 p.m., Nov. 26. The Rev.
Jerry King officiated at the
double ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter
of Mrs. Lorene Fricks of
Godley. Parents of the bride-
groom are Mr. and Mrs.
Charlie Morris of Burleson.
Votive candles provided
lighting for the nuptial set-
ting, where an archway cov-
ered by greenery stood near
the altar. White bows with
carnations marked the pews
of the church. The organist
for the wedding was Nancy
King, who played the “Wed-
ding Prayer,” “The Lord’s
Prayer,” and the traditional
“Wedding March.” Missy
Stuck and Chris Williams
sang “You and I” and “End-
less Love.”
Given in marriage by her
uncle, Larry Northcutt of
Godley, the bride was gown-
ed in chiffon over taffeta.
The gown had a wedding
band neckline, and the bod-
ice was trimmed with seed
pearls and alencon lace, re-
peated at the waist. The
scarf-cut chiffon skirt over a
taffeta underskirt fell from
an empire waist, termina-
ting in a chapel length train.
Alencon lace trimmed the
nylon netting of the bridal
veil, which was attached to a
Juliet cap. A white lace fan
formed the base of the bridal
bouquet, with burgundy and
pink roses, and burgundy
and gray carnations inter-
spersed with baby’s breath,
English ivy, and white car-
nations.
The maid of honor, Marion
Gelinas of Burleson, wore a
floor length gown of rose
pink hue. A pleated skirt and
spaghetti strap bodice with a
lace cape completed her en-
semble. Cathy Maldanado of

Girl Scouts active at Glen Rose campout
BY LINDA HAAS
Approximately 125 girl
scouts from the Burleson
area recently participated in
a campout at Glen Rose at
Stevens Ranch.
Most of the troops arrived
at camp on Friday and spent
the evening roller skating at
Richardson Lodge. The next
morning brought breakfast
followed by a songfest hosted
by the cadette troops. A lot of
the old favorites were sung
and everyone learned new
ones.
Several troops of Brownies
came to spend the day Satur-
day, and it certainly proved
to be a full one. Following a
hike and lunch the group met
to participate in a Tennis
Shoe Rodeo. There were sev-
eral events, but the favorite
two were milking (using a
rubber glove) and chasing a
goat to pull off the red rib-
bon. Despite the rain, every-
one had a great time (even
the goat!).
Saturday night supper was
a pot luck supper at the lodge
with lots of good eating. Af-
terwards, Karen Yandell’s
Cadette Troop 225 taught
square dancing. This was a
new experience for many
and lots of laughs for every-
one. The campfire was rain-
ed out, but the enthusiasm
wasn’t dampened.
Sunday brought to an end a
fun weekend. Everyone held
their own “Scout’s Own” and
prepared for check out time.
There were lots of scouts
that were sad the events
were over and one goat who
probably wasn’t the least bit
upset.
Troops 366 and 213 held
investature ceremonies re-
cently to bring new girls into
scouting. Joining Troop 213
were Jamie Baker, Becky
Braziel, Heather Bell, Fele-
cia Garrets on, Kim Jarrett,
Trisha Morelock, Mary Law-
son, Jennifer Lea, Jennifer
Turner, Rachel Uleman,
Jackie Wood, and Dana Lan-
ningham. We welcome these
girls to Brownie Scouting. I
also understand that this
troop made Thanksgiving
tray favors for patients at
Huguley Hospital along with
the Juniors in Troop 366.
Junior Troop 366 invested
four new girls to tneir troop
with a candle ceremony for
the parents. Entering Junior
scouting are Kelsey Jones,
Brandi Wuistinger, Shawna,
Smith and Sheila White.
They also had a fly-up cere:
mony for the following girls
receiving their Brownie
Wings and Bridge to Junior
Scouting honors: Kathy
Clayton, Brandy Hatch, and
Robbie Bartlett.
Both of these troops have
been very busy and have
participated in the campout
at Glen Rose, a visit to Omni
theater, and are currently
planning a Christmas pro-
gram.
Brownie Troop 323 learned
about proper care of the
hair, face, and nails recently
with a visit to the Burleson
High School Cosmetology
Department. Judy Fleck and
Judy Moore tell me that the
girls learned a lot and had a
wonderful time. A very spec-
ial thanks to Mrs. Maldonado
