There's a reason it's called
Bailey's 1 Main Place. It's on Main
Street, of course, the comer of Main
and Ellison, to be exact.
The big one on the logo, though,
has special meaning. It's a first for
Burleson—this enclosed mini-mall
concept. It features all kinds of
unique shopping opportunities for
local residents and has an instant
appeal (with the structure’s historical
significance in the area) to shoppers
from the Metroplex and surrounding
communities as well.
It's something we can all take
pride in and support well as a com-
munity, and it's a dream come true for
Jim and Bcttie Bailey of Burleson.
When purchased from Jan Dalton
after the closing of Dalton's Comer,
the building was only a vision in the
minds of the new owners—a vision
of what the structure could become.
Bettie and Jim have set out making
those dreams come true.
Officially opened as a mini-mall
Nov. 1, the building has been utilized
for the past six months or so as a
meeting place for parties, group
functions, art shows, and any number
of civic activities. An upper floor
with a stage and seating speace for
about 250, can be (and has been)
used for ballroom and banquet hall
functions, wedding receptions,
dances, large parties or meetings.
Hall rental is reasonable and offers a
convenient location for Burleson
area activities.
Inside the mall at Bailey's One
Main Place, Bettie's Beauty Shop has
likewise been open for a number of
months. It has an attractive and a
unique decorating concept of weath-
ered wood storefront decor and the
country look throughout. So custom-
ers of the style shop (which has a vin-
tage tenure in Burleson) are already
familiar with the facility.
Now, though, there is a wide
variety of craft, hobby, and fine art
products and supplies available
there. There’s a frame shop and other
boutiques of interest to shoppers who
have an eye for the unusual and origi-
nality of style and detail.
Located in Olde Towne Burle-
son, it's the ideal place for browsing,
shopping, or just milling around.

No Tricks, Just Treats
Treats, but no tricks, was the
theme of the buffet sponsored by
Brooks Builders at their Alsbury
Ridge Model Home on Halloween
Tuesday.
Dee Skiles, Alsbury Ridge sales
manager, recently transferred from
the Hulen Meadows location and
invited all area builders, realtors, and
agents to visit the home and get ac-
quainted.
Those attending were treated
not only to the Mexican buffet, but
also had a chance at a drawing for a
free listing on one of Brooks Build-
ers' Homes, plus a bag of treats to
take with them.
Pay a visit to Burleson’s first
enclosed mini-mall. See what all
they have to offer and be sure to let
the owners know you appreciate the
new shopping area. And keep the
convenient location in Olde Towne
in mind as you plan your Christmas
shopping this year. Watch this busi-
ness column for new developments
in mall boutiques.

Birdly Banner Abounds At Scotty's Hallmark

TEXAS PRESS
ASSOCIATION
AWARD WINNFR
This Thanksgiving, birdly ban-
ter will be aimed at a lot of two-
legged turkeys, both feathered aqd
" family. Hallmark Card writers have
cooked up jokes and gags that are as
good around the dinner table as in the
mail.
Turkey jokes on Thanksgiving
cards are more popular than ever,
according to Doris Butler of Scotty's
Hallmark, The famous fowl of the
traditional feast is fast becoming the
celebrity of the holiday. *
One card, for example, says, "If
you asked a turkey what it thought
about Thanksgiving, know what it
would say?. . .Probably something
fowl."
Anothercard offers humor hing-
ing on turkey dinner: "Happy
Thanksgiving! May you gobble till
you wobble!" Turkeys have been fair
game for card writers since Hallmark
made its first Thanksgiving cards in
the early 1920s.
Americans will exchange about
40 million Thanksgiving cards this
year, making Thanksgiving the
nation's seventh largest card-sending
holiday.
