Stimulants are drugs that
tuuse the mind and body to

—Mood shifts, hyperactivity,
and intensified emotions, com-
bined with the inevitable change
in lifestyle of a dependent per-
son. This can lead to a higher
risk of violence, which includes
rape, homicide, and assault.
—Viral hepatitis from a dirty
needle that can lead to liver
damage or AIDS. Injecting
amphetamines in your veins that
are not pure or have been cut
with some other type of sub-
stance, can block smaller blood
vessels and cause kidney and
lung damage.
—Anorexia nervosa can result
from a loss of appetite due to
stimulants.
— Long term abuse leads to
malnutrition which makes you
more susceptible to disease
and infection.
Drug dealers can make their
loot go farther if they cut it with
other substances. Those substan-
ces include lactose, epsom salts,
quinine, baking powder, ether,
insecticides, photo developer,
and strychnine. Poisonous ad-
ditives can kill, especially if injec-
ted, because it can not be
expelled by vomiting.
There are things to do to pre-
vent stimulant Use by someone
you love. First, share the facts
known about stimulant abuse.
An informed person has a
defense to stay no to an offer
or temptation.
Teach your child how to be
stimulated without drugs. Check
out recreation and amUsement
activities.
Teach the values of self-
discipline. Goal setting and life
management, especially of time
in a school situation, can prevent
stimulant use.
Watch carefully for signs of
sadness or depression. Be tuned
in to your children and friends.
Check the side effects on all
medication prescribed to you
and to your children. Be careful
of diet pills or any other type of
pill that may alter moods.
Know the signs of stimulant
abuse, as stated above, and
watch for them.
When a user comes off a
stimulant high he or she
becomes very tired, depressed,
and develops a headache, heart
palpitations, dizziness, agitation,
apprehension, and confusion.
The trip is over.
