Steve Bloomfield Goes In For A Layup Against Mustangs
GRAPEVINE—It started
out as a routine trading ses-
sion and might have never
changed if the host Mustangs
hadn't become greedy Tues-
day night.
Once the Elks decided the
mustangs weren't going to
sit around and take a loss
without a battle, they got
moving and rolled to a 56-46
win—their sixth in nine
games
The Elks had the upper
hand in the early exchanges,
taking the lead each time
and then letting the Mus-
tangs tie them.
But Grapevine shot to a
16-12 lead late in the first
quarter and the Elks needed
buckets bv Ricky Williamson
and John Lewis to tie the
game at the break
Grapevine took an 18-16
lead at the start of the second
quarter but the Elks came
back on a layup by William-
son and a jumper by Alan
Dixon to take a 20-18 lead
The Elks grabbed the lead
three more times only to see
it tied by Grapevine before
Williamson put Burleson a-
head for good with a field
goal vvith 4:31 left in the first
halt He added an insurance
free throw
Steve Bloomfield hit a
jumper with 45 seconds left
in the first half to run the Elk
lead to 33-26 and Grapevine
shortened that by two before
intermission
Grapevine ciutscored the
Elks at the start of the third
quarter and narrowed the
gap to 35-32 before Burleson
called time and came out
gunning
Bloomfield hit a layup and
[rush lollowed with a layup to
stretch the Elk lead to seven
