‘Here’s one that sounds fjootl!'
STEPPING INTO THE
Gilbert Home on Lena Lane is
just like stepping into the
pages of Better Homes and
Gardens. It is so tastefully and
interestingly decorated.
And one of the reasons is
because today’s Homemaker
of the Week, Shirley Gilbert,
has excellent taste and a
knowledge of putting just the
right groupings together with
the “just right” color coor-
dination.
She has the eye and the so.ul
of an artist.
Her interest in home
decorating started when she
was a junior in high school. Her
family had just bought seme
new living room furniture. •
“My mother said I could do
the decorating. And it CuVried
out rather nice. Years latter I
read an article on decorating
and found out that I had done
all of the right things;” Shirley
said.
“Some people go 'td'a
psychiatrist, but if I get down
in the dumps, all I need is just
to re-arrange my house or to
add something new. It re-
juvenates me and the house,,
she added.
Her husband. Charles, she
is a jewel ..He,u belp
me in anyway I ask him to.
Moving furniture around,
hanging lamps, or plants or
pictures. He is just as in-
terested as I am.”
Shirley is presently
employed as a receptionist-
secretary for Redman Homes
located on the east access
road of 1-35. Before that she
was employed by the gas com-
pany in Fort Worth and for a
time worked for Home In-
teriors, Inc.
“In fact,” she said, “I in-
troduced Home Interiors in
Burleson.”
For a room to harmonize
and blend, she recommends
using 60 percent of a basic col-
or; 30 percent of a second col-
or with a 10 percent accent
color.
And the formula works
wonders in the Gilbert living
room. Her basic color scheme
is gold in the carpets and
draperies with the secondary
color navy blue with touches
of gold and rust in the long
divan and love seat. The
drapes have an over-drape
swag of navy blue, gold and
rust that matches perfectly
the divan and love seat.
“I had to wait six months to
get the drapery material I
wanted, but it was worth
waiting for to create the effect
I wanted.
"DECORATING TO ME, is
what you can live with happi-
ly. If you don’t know about
decorating, a good rule to
follow is to keep the carpet
and drapes the same color,
because they usually repre-
sent a major investment.”
