The first round of the Burleson Parks and Recreation Co-ed
Church Vbllevball tournament was held on Thursday January 22,
. at the Community Center from 7-10 p.m. First United Methodist
•Church "2" defeated the First Baptist "l”, 13-10, 17-I9 and 8-4
with time mnmng out in thie first and third game.
The Church of Christ "l" defeated Kingswood 15-1 and 15-8
while the First Christian Church was over Saint Matthew l 5-7 and
15-11 The Church of Christ "3" beat the First United Methodist
V, l 5-9, I M3 and ll-C The winners will advance to second
round plav on Tuesday, January 27 from 7-10 p.m.
The games to be played on Tuesday are as follows: First United
Methodist "I" vs. First United Methodist "2” at 7 p.m.; Church of
Christ "l" vs Hilltop at 7.45 pm.; First Baptist "2" vs. First Chris-
tian at 8-30 pm and Church ol Christ "3" vs Church of Christ "2"
at 9:1 5 p.m.
The winnes of this round will advance to the final round on
Thursday, January 29

, The Scott Murray's. D D Lewis/ Bovs Club Celebrity Golf Tour-
nament is slated lot April 6 at the Riverside Club in Grand Prairie
Proceeds of the tourney will support camping and outdoor pro-
grams lot the six to 18 year old members of the Dallas and
Arlington Boys Clubs and also the Panther Bovs Club in Foil
Worth, which supervises the local Burleson Boys Club.
Murry's name was added to the golf tournament title along with
" 1 former Cowboy Linebacker D D Lewis. Murry is a long-time boos-
ter of the benefit tournament and a member of the Arlington Boys
Club board
A four-man scramble format will match players with one of
several do/en celebrites that include sports figures, political
leaders and entertainers Morning and afternoons rounds will ac-
commodate an expected 288 players.

The Seventh Grade "A” and
"B" teams suffered losses to
Stephenville Tuesday afternoon
at the Pauline G. Hughes Middle
School Gym.
The "A” team lost the game
due to turnovers, according to
Coach Susan Green.
Leading scorer in the game
was Kim Norrid with six points,
thre -■ rebounds and three steals
and following her were Kami
Culbertson and Heather Saati
with four points. Jennifer Stewart
canned three points, took three
rebounds and snatched two
steals while Vicki Anderson
scored two points, grabbed two
rebounds and stole the ball once
Tiffany Bradford tallied two
points and took six rebounds
while Kara Kittle scored one
point and grabbed six rebounds.
Coach Green mentioned DeAnna
Turners, Norrid and Saari as
outstanding players in the game
against Stephenville.
The " B " team played " the best
they've played ever," according to
Green
Keri Sykoya was the top scorer
with eight points and seven steals
and she was followed by Cheryl
Haydin with seven points and 10
rebounds. Janelle Hombeck
tallied six points and five
rebounds while Christie Brewer
added two points.
Outstanding players in the
game were Mindy Mills, Rachel
Badgett, Brewer and Sykoya
Junior Varsity defeats S.H. in overtime
The Burleson girls junior var-
sity played, what Coach Sharon
Carter called,"The most exciting
game,” against Sam Houston
last Friday night.
They went into overlime and
defeated the Sam Houston Tex-
ans 82-61.
With 10 second remaining in
the game, the Lady Flks were
down by two and with just
seconds before the final buzzer
sounded Tosha Anderson knotted
the score at 55-55
During the imperative shot An-
derson was fouled and she went
to the line but failed to make it in
the hoop, forcing the game to go
into overtime.
At the beginning of the game
the Lady HIk. jumped out
ahead early.
